Happy Black in Neuro Week🫶🏾🧠 so happy to be a part of this community! This year, I became a F99/K00 D-SPAN Scholar (!!!) and will be looking for Postdoc positions very soon. Let’s connect! #BlackInNeuroRollCall #BINW24 @blackinneuro
🚀 New LUPE Feature: Pain State Model—mapping pain dynamics over seconds to minutes ⏱️ 🔹 6 unique states identified from 316,488 observations 🔹 State classification offers data-driven insights into chronic pain 🔹 Syncs with neural activity recording tech @Inscopix 🐭🧠🔬🤖
adding A LOT of new features and analyses to the LUPE platform to measure ethological signatures across a bunch of acute/chronic pain models ... posting big updated bioRxiv soon ...
🎉 Congratulations to Jasmine Kwasa, winner of the 2024 NOMIS & Science Young Explorer Award for her work in addressing the underappreciated racial and phenotypic biases in neuroimaging methods by developing new, inclusive medical technologies. bit.ly/40E7E9o
"Menopause doesn’t just change hormones—it reshapes the brain. Memory shifts, hot flashes, mood swings, and sleep disruptions all have neural roots. Read more about this transition in this week's article by @PennNGG student & PNK Co-Editor @neuro_melody pennneuroknow.com/2025/02/25/the…

7/ 🧠💊Placebo Modulation: First direct evidence of rapid opioid release during placebo analgesia! Moving beyond PET imaging or antagonist studies, we reveal real-time insights into how the brain's intrinsic opioid system suppresses pain during placebo pain-releif expectations
1/ 🧠 Excited to share our new preprint: Convergent state-control of endogenous opioid analgesia We uncover how cognitive + contextual factors—like injury, fear, and placebo—modulate pain through dynamic opioid signaling in the periaqueductal gray (PAG) biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Just received a wonderful Christmas gift from @NIH ! $2.76M to study molecular & cellular changes in the human brain across menopausal transition! 🎉 So excited! We’ll be hiring 2 postdocs-come join us in NYC for cool science, as we transform #WomensMentalHealth research!

What new technologies are redefining how we study pain? Neuroscience PhD candidate @neuro_melody explains three technologies that she uses in her research, including one that allows her to program pain neurons to shut down in response to a drug, resulting in pain relief!…
What does a day in the life look like for a neuroscience PhD researcher? @neuro_melody describes her day working in a lab studying the neurobiology of physical pain! #WomenInSTEM #STEMCareers #Neuroscience #Biology
I can't stress enough the importance of sending follow-up emails when reaching out to PIs. Most of us don't have personal assistants and sometimes a gentle reminder really helps. I just did this while following up with a busy potential collaborator and it seems to have worked 😁
