this is a good op-ed, and even if it changes only a few people's minds I think it will have been worth the (valiant) effort

The Bitter lesson does not say to not bother with methods research. It says to not bother with methods that are handcrafted datapoints in disguise.
We achieved gold medal level performance on this year's IMO! Our model thinks and writes proofs in clear, plain‑English - no formal code required. Unlike the narrower systems used in past competitions, our model is built to reason broadly, far beyond contest problems.
1/N I’m excited to share that our latest @OpenAI experimental reasoning LLM has achieved a longstanding grand challenge in AI: gold medal-level performance on the world’s most prestigious math competition—the International Math Olympiad (IMO).
everything @alexwei_ touches turns to gold

It was thrilling to watch AI compete against some of the best human competitive programmers at AtCoder World Finals Heuristics yesterday. Check out @andresnds ‘s thread on how the AI solutions improved throughout the 10h contest. Congrats to @FakePsyho on 1st place!
1/N Yesterday in Tokyo we @OpenAI ran a 10‑hour live Humans vs AI exhibition at the AtCoder World Tour Finals Heuristic. We pointed an OpenAI reasoning model at the same brutal problem the finalists tackled—no human help, same rules, same clock. Buckle up. 👇
this was so impressive to watch - plus did you know there is a scoring system that multiplies by 1e9

it's hard to appreciate just how deep the talent pool at openai is until each wave of departures
at this point replacing the supreme court with 9 chatbots would give us better rulings (better=principled, humane, protects the constitution, etc.)
politicians used to say "history will judge us" on this and that, when did they all decide they didn't care anymore
I'm glad we have a president in charge who definitely thinks deeply about longterm US security and not just on what looks good for him in the moment
sad to think of where society could be if humans in the aggregate were just a little bit less cruel and a little bit less stupid
it's great when a country blows its manageable problems completely out of proportion while turning a blind eye to the actually serious problems. oh and creating new ones out of ignorance and spite.
the current us administration acts like the spoiled children of successful parents who have no idea what built their great inheritance
has anyone tried presenting trump with a Big Beautiful deficit reduction bill? pretty sure it's the magnitude not the valence that is important to him
wouldn't it be nice if a party that has total control over the us government and has been saying (mostly correctly) for decades that we need to reduce the deficit tried to, you know, reduce the deficit
