It's hard to articulate how incredible of an experience it was watching X2 for the first time. Hearing Logan say "You picked the wrong house, bub" while subsequently going full berserker rage, as an X-Men fan it sent chills down my spine. X2 still has the sauce 22 years later.
I will always defend late 90s/early 00s CBMs. Especially from the under 30 ppl who have no idea how much heavy lifting these movies had to do to break into mainstream & for the ungrateful 30+ pol who act like theyre shit (sure not all were great) because they werent 100% accurate
John Woo lit Tom Cruiseβs face like he was the most beautiful woman in the world
The only two times we see Val Kilmerβs character Chris Shiherlisβ beautiful smile in Heat is immediately before two of the worst moments of his life. His acting in this film is so painful and quietly powerful. Kilmer was the steady heartbeat of Heat.
11 year old me was stunned on how a 3 and a half hour film never felt boring.
Whatβs the movie that made you love movies?
Kinda insane how badly A24 fumbled this movie, he should be the clear frontrunner
Colman Domingo, SING SING
"The supposed 'cinema savior'" is in fact a very literal cinema savior, having funded restorations of 64 films from around the world that otherwise could have been lost forever. Meanwhile Disney/Marvel work to push more and more independent and foreign films out of multiplexes.

Better Man has a scene where monkey Robbie Williams fights off his monkey demons/younger selves, and that's the type of wild shit I love in creative biopics.
not Lynch's movie, i know, but god, what a sendoff
still have some december releases to watch but I'm feeling good about this list rn

Sebastian Stan is nominated in both Best Actor categories at the #GoldenGlobes for his performances in βA DIFFERENT MANβ and βTHE APPRENTICEβ
the way 20th century fox is carrying tf out of disneyβs ip filmmaking
Casino is the best fucking movie ever made and it's not particularly close
The reason seemingly nearly every fight scene from early 2000s superhero movies go viral now is because theyβre actual scenes. Shot on built sets with specifically crafted lighting, wire work, and stunt work. Not just CG on a soundstage.
Look how RAW this shit was
That physicality, screen presence, and swagger is just never going to be matched in another superhero movie, huh?
This shit right here is Aura not any of that Mark Ruffalo disney shit
The Incredible Hulk
