Eddington (🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟) is the second film released in 2025 that I’m awarding the Five Star Treatment. I believe the risks Ari Aster takes in Eddington are the entire reason Cinema matters- it’s the reason art exists. This is the sort of immediate, impossibly relevant storytelling…

Alfonso Cuarón’s Gravity is a film I remember fondly. But in recent years, a number of friends of mine have told me they really dislike this film. I can’t understand the dislike for a film that’s as well-done as this- Cuarón’s visuals are jaw-dropping and Sandra Bullock shines.
Since winning the Oscar 5 years ago, Joaquin Phoenix’s stock went down. Phoenix’s last five years included subpar films, a failed Napoleon, & dropping out of a Todd Haynes film last minute. But with #Eddington, it feels like a vintage Phoenix performance, like here in The Master.
Austin Butler isn’t in #Eddington for very long, but he’s electric in his limited time. I love that Butler is willing to pop in & out of movies in different-sized roles, like in Ari Aster’s latest or here in Dune: Part 2. Butler seems like a guy who just wants to be in good…
Oppenheimer released just about 2 years ago today. One of the best in-theater experiences of my life- totally overwhelming. I saw this 3 times in one weekend. It’s a film filled with moments but the Trinity Test, shown here, is the moment I’ll remember most. Nolan is that guy.
Adam Sandler’s #HappyGilmore2 releases this Friday, 29 years after the original. I have high expectations for this, but traders at Kalshi forecast Sandler’s latest sequel will only score a 50.4 on RT. Tell me your thoughts & if you’re as optimistic as I am for this sequel:

Gonna Really Miss the Prince of Darkness RIP Ozzy Osbourne
Paul Giamatti’s breakdown in Sideways perfectly captures the roller coaster ride that depression sends a person down. Giamatti’s performance is hilarious but equally as heartbreaking, something you notice the more you watch this film. Giamatti is an incredibly gifted actor.
Brian De Palma’s never received the credit he deserves for his genius as a filmmaker. Overshadowed by his peers that exploded on the scene in the ‘70s, countless directors and actors owe part of their success to De Palma. That includes Al Pacino.
One of the Least Deserving Best Picture Wins of the Century
I think almost every Stanley Kubrick film is its own masterpiece. That includes Full Metal Jacket. Not many films successfully depict the psychological toll war takes on those actually on the ground fighting it. It’s a painful rewatch but Kubrick’s direction is just so strong.
