Quick reminder: everything from your beating heart to your most-liked-tweet to that humiliating thing you said at work... it's all just little bits of the universe reorganising. Eventually you'll be cosmic vapour floating silently through an infinite abyss. Have a great day now.
I'm beyond delighted for my dear friend Samantha Harvey, who has made the Booker Prize shortlist. And I ain't jumping on no bandwagon here. I've been saying how phenomenal she is for YEARS. Go and treat yourself to her whole back catalogue... @TheBookerPrizes

Off to Edinburgh for the Royal College of Psychiatrists International Conference. I'm giving a talk on the role of the arts and humanities in helping us to understand the complexity of psychosis. #RCPsychIC @rcpsych Um, #NoScotlandNoParty.
Playing a fun family game of ‘Worst Way to Die’. I’ve settled on: at a ripe old age, surrounded by loved ones but with a vague sense that a colleague or minor acquaintance might be annoyed with you abt something.
Announcing the AI Futures Project: an AGI forecasting and governance organization led by @DKokotajlo. Our first project is AI 2027: a scenario forecast of the development and effects of superintelligence. We've also developed an AGI tabletop exercise.
Shut up Step 6. If I want to pace the kitchen having arguments with people in my head, I fucking will.

I’m calling it. ChatGPT-4o is a brilliant therapist. If you spend a bit of time discussing the tone and intellectual rigour that is valuable for you then it is the fucking bomb. I have been using it in this capacity for months and it is life-changing.
I’ve just donated to this. Such a wonderful and important poetry publication. I really hope it survives and thrives 🙏
1 day left on our fundraiser! As you know we have been turned down twice for Arts Council Funding and we are running a crowdfunder to help us get through the coming months. Please donate if you can and share widely. crowdfunder.co.uk/p/bad-betty
So delighted to be joining @JoannaCannon, @nathanfiler, @DrHenryMarsh & other stellar authors at this wonderful celebration of medical art & humanities tomorrow evening in Bristol. A few tickets still available I think - medicine360.co.uk/post/bodies-2-…
Here’s what Booker prize winning novelist Sam Harvey made of my collection of mental health essays. Still available in all good bookshops etc.

I won't keep bangin' on abt this, but I am so grateful that my debut (only) novel is back on the shelves. It's too easy for books to disappear after publication, so the thought of this story finding new readers after ten long years means the world to me. Thank you @BoroughPress.

I get it now. We project complex, layered feelings onto pets while simultaneously coveting their uncomplicated interiority. This game throws humanity into sharp relief. We love them because they speak to some prelapsarian version of ourselves. Also, they have cute little faces.
For my new followers who are principally here for the life and times of Sir Ernest Henry Shackleton, here we see him, with remarkable stoicism, countenancing the hard truth that his first expedition to the southern most patch of the garden has ended in failure.
The main thing I've learnt since posting this is that twitter very much prefers my puppy to my poetry.
Turns out all I needed to become a dog person was my own dog. Meet Ernest Henry Shackleton.
