AI is reshaping how scientists explore the most fundamental particles of the universe. Argonne theoretical physicists Tim Hobbs and Brandon Kriesten are using AI and machine learning (ML) to solve complex problems in particle physics - bit.ly/3HDDAmR
Very happy to see @SandesaraJay presenting the first simulation-based inference result from @ATLASexperiment at EPS HEP today. ◦Physics paper: arxiv.org/abs/2412.01548 ◦Technical paper: arxiv.org/abs/2412.01600 Several talks about SBI in that session! We’re at a tipping point
I was hoping someone would write a book at the intersection of physics and personal identity. Congrats on your launch @equreshihurst, and excited to dig in!
Last night's book launch for 'Salvation in the Block Universe' in the Theology Faculty at Oxford. It was wonderful to see so many of my old colleagues there, and to be introduced by my brilliant D.Phil supervisor Professor Alister McGrath!
When I was a PhD student, I wanted to use Eureqa, an incredible symbolic regression (SR) tool that could discover equations from data. Though it was developed by my PhD lab more than 15 years ago, it was closed-source and eventually commercialized. This stayed with me in…
Official results are in - Gemini achieved gold-medal level in the International Mathematical Olympiad! 🏆 An advanced version was able to solve 5 out of 6 problems. Incredible progress - huge congrats to @lmthang and the team! deepmind.google/discover/blog/…
In the block universe, past, present, and future all simultaneously exist. Turns out, Now & Laters were really onto something. #physics #specialrelativity #confectionarywisdom

Have you ever done a dense grid search over neural network hyperparameters? Like a *really dense* grid search? It looks like this (!!). Blueish colors correspond to hyperparameters for which training converges, redish colors to hyperparameters for which training diverges.
Happy to share that our AI-Descartes article in Nature Communications (ai-descartes.github.io) has received the Pat Goldberg Memorial Best Paper Award, an annual recognition from IBM Research for outstanding papers! 🎉 #ScientificDiscovery #AI4Science
Accelerating discovery in fundamental physics will reshape our understanding of reality and unlock massive economic value. In this post, I explain why. Follow me down the rabbit hole 🐰🕳️ discoveryengines.co/p/the-case-for…
3rd interstellar object discovered? Maybe. There's a lot of buzz right now in the Astro community. More observations should come in tonight to confirm if A11pI3Z is from beyond the solar system.
Organs on chips, quality control on wheels, automated liquid biopsies, oh my. I had a blast meeting founders and researchers accelerating biotech while walking the floor of the 2025 @IAmBiotech International Convention in Boston. Three themes I noticed: 1. AI Beyond Drug…
When we look out at the night sky, we're literally looking into infinity. A concept so unintuitive, yet so instantly accessible. What magic.

Thrilled to have joined Nabil Laoudji (@nabilwrites) on his podcast, Discovery Engines. We talked about the founding story and mission behind PyLabRobot: building open, universal lab automation that empowers scientists everywhere. Check out the episode below!
What if we could integrate, play with, and control lab hardware as easily as we do software? That’s the vision behind @pylabrobot, an open-source, hardware-agnostic Python SDK building a universal interface for lab automation. I sat down with its creator, @rickwierenga, to…
