Before I became a journalist, I had planned to become a scientist. It has been incredibly disorienting and disheartening to see how a career in research has now become just as uncertain and tumultuous as journalism itself. My latest for @nytopinion: nytimes.com/2025/04/03/opi…
Love can be addictive, which means looking to chatbots for love and affection can foster an addiction itself. @maiasz's latest piece for @nytopinion: nytimes.com/2025/06/03/opi…
we're obsessing over the ways AI is going to challenge the way we foster and practice literacy. @leifweatherby points out we're glossing over the disruption it may create on *numeracy* and quantitative reasoning nytimes.com/2025/06/02/opi…
If we allow the Trump administration’s assault on empathy to define our global health agenda, or ourselves, we won’t just be turning away from the world — we’ll be turning away from who we are. My latest for @nytimes 🔗 in post below
Highly recommend seeing 28 Years Later as a morning matinee and then spending the rest of your afternoon enjoying immaculate LA weather
Of course it was. These are just buildings. You can’t bomb away a technological capability. All this does is convince Iran it needs the nuclear deterrent it’s always been capable of acquiring.
Iranian tv, as reported by AJArabic, says that the nuclear equipment had already been evacuated from all three facilities attacked by the US into safe places a while ago.
Uber driver has “yacht rock radio” on in the car. I love LA so much. I would never in a thousand years move here.
I was denied entry, detained, and deported from the USA for reporting on the Columbia student protests. My story here @NewYorker newyorker.com/news/the-lede/…
Really feels like I might stand a chance
lmao there is a Zohran lookalike competition. the desi boys are about to show up
too many bad takes on today's pop stars... there's a guy on tiktok doing piano covers of shoegaze classics and if he ever broke through to mainstream discourse I think I'd just decide to never again log on
the group chat decided today we're calling it Big Dawg Summer. cc: @cd_hooks @emilyctamkin
I'm sure LLMs will get better than this. But as it stands, everyone who posts this kind of thing — with an example that wows them — is just announcing that they can't evaluate what makes writing effective, or aren't used to understanding the meaning of the things they read.
The first three paragraphs of a Chat-GPT review of the Rachel Papers by Martin Amis. Quite amazing. I think you could submit writing of this standard to a magazine and get published. Took three seconds.
Excited to have at least one more night where I get to mass text “Jalen Brunson” to everyone I know
calling this a new trend is not the correct framing. it's just guys doing a bit that eventually becomes real life — the aspirational evolution of every bit. it's what sustains men as we venture through this mortal coil. nytimes.com/2025/05/24/sty…
i like this show but it is dangerously close to becoming harry potter for people who read adam tooze
Andor has seriously (I’m not kidding) changed the way I’m living my life under this administration.
This OKC Thunder team gives me very 2015/2016 Golden State vibes (derogatory)
