Looking for two things 1) A ‘mic drop’ for @MPlainDS 2) The UK governments back bone
Oof. @MPIainDS *absolutely* lays into Lord Johnson for failing to raise #JimmyLai on his visit to Hong Kong. Worth your time.
The UK government has never done enough to protect the people from Hong Kong The lack of action after the agreement was broken, the lack of action since. We have a responsibility as a country to the places we colonised, visas are not enough
An outrageous betrayal of Hong Kong. So much for “we will always stand with the people of Hong Kong”. Suspending extradition was about the only thing the UK did to hold Beijing accountable. Now those who left their homes to come to the UK will be living under constant fear.
There was an immediate outcry, and the Govt said this: “It is entirely incorrect to say the UK has restored extradition co-operation with Hong Kong. The 1997 treaty remains suspended and this legislation simply completes the severing of ties between the British and Hong Kong…
No words
“The safety and security of Hong Kongers in the UK is of the upmost importance."-- @DanJarvisMBE , 8 April 2025 Of so much importance that they now want to resume the extradition agreement with Hong Kong. 工党 = CLS 公司🙃
Very disturbing. With the UK’s extradition treaty with Hong Kong back in place, HK can demand extradition of dissidents for any number of exaggerated or falsified charges. Even if the courts eventually rule against extradition, it will be a tool to harass activists and upend…
Government plans to reintroduce extradition cooperation with Hong Kong are highly concerning. Why does the Government deem this reasonable when freedom of expression, political freedom and the rule of law in Hong Kong have been crushed by The National Security Law and the…
Scary stuff
Today Parliament approved new laws (by 112 votes) allowing foreign government investors to own 15% of UK newspapers. Wrongheaded policy rushed through to try to facilitate the Telegraph acquisition. NO to 🇨🇳 state influence in 🇬🇧 media. @DavidAltonHL had it right 👇

#BNO Hong Kongers from all over 🇬🇧 have signed our petition to @keir_starmer. We urge @GovUK to listen to the voices of BNO constituents across the UK, and uphold its promises to #HongKong by maintaining the 5+1 pathway for BNO visa holders. #StandByBNOs #NoBrokenPromises
