❤️🔥 Passionate about gene regulation research, wet/dry lab? 🎡 Excited about London's vibrant research and social scene? 🔬 Looking for a funded postdoc position (+ ideally, have the CV & drive to apply for a fellowship in your 1st year)? Please DM/email me to discuss!

Perhaps even more so, an invited seminar talk.
I feel like the conference talk format has gotten so stale, even for those who are good at it. How can we switch it up? One idea is an "interview" style, where after a 5 minute presentation, an interviewer who has read the paper engages in a structured conversation. Thoughts?
This is consistent with my personal impression and, to me, is a key reason why, despite Brexit and the numerous socio-economic problems, the UK remains one of the best countries to contribute your talent to.
Brits are more pro-immigration than you think. Despite the toxic media narrative, the public is actually calling for *more* migrants. 4 stats that surprised me:

Dear reviewers, when you refuse to re-review a revised version of the paper you reviewed earlier, you mess things up quite badly for the authors. Please try to avoid doing that.

Congratulations @artemov_pav on passing his PhD viva and many thanks to Vlad @TeifLab and @Alexis_Barr for conducting it!

By instituting their own funding calls, smaller science funders increase the workload of everyone: their staff, reviewers/panelists and the applicants. Would it not be better if they committed to funding some proposals deemed fundable but not making the cut at major funders?
I think it's time to move to Bluesky. Follow me there (@mspivakov.bsky.social)! Will cross-post to X/Twitter for now.
