often wonder if I should do a RCT of replying to people on twitter who don't understand screening/evidence 1) using this account 2) using an account with same qualifications but a male name, and seeing who the evidence-notunderstanding person engages politely/rudely with.
Incidentally, I wrote this in the BMJ about celebrity calls for PSA screening a while back. bmj.com/content/387/bm…. it won a prize from the @RoyalStatSoc last week.
This is how @gilescoren decides to respond to polite and evidence based challenge about him misleading men with inaccurate advice about PSA testing.

men aren't screened, as only women are invited to screening (asymptomatic) - they may have been referred for diagnostic testing (eg a lump)
your intentions may be honourable @gilescoren but you are getting the science wrong. Screening is complex and counter intuitive. It can be easy to think that you are doing good while causing harm. If you'd like to discuss (even over lunch) - let me know.....
Gosh.
Faaaaake. That would leave trans women out of cancer screenings, for example. The ignorance about hotmone function in people who talk about medicine like theyre experts is astounding.
doctors need to know the sex of their patients for multiple clinical (safety) reasons. Sex is determined at conception and recognised often in utero and described at birth. It's not assigned like a random dicethrow. We know this.
just had a large swig of coffee from cup on desk but realised too late wrong cup that has been mouldering there for >10 days pray for me

massive cycling trip last week. esp brilliant thing was to ride with cyclists in their 60s and 70s smashing it every day. get this in GP too - older people (or course!) with busy/full/interesting lives. media is v negative on ageing (esp women). Real life offers much more. 💕🚵♀️
"We deeply regret your innocence but think you should think long and hard about the behaviour which caused us to persecute you" superb @alexmassie thetimes.com/uk/scotland/ar…
I hope this will be of interest to PhD aspiring academics interested in the commercial determinants of health, multi-morbidity, and over diagnosis... gla.ac.uk/postgraduate/d…
Or even just wanting to follow the evidence. Yes.
If you proclaim yourself a sceptic or a science educator, you can’t pick & choose which dogmas you denounce & ridicule and which ones you defend under the umbrella of kindness.
This is illogical and dangerous. Either everyone on the rota needs particular qualifications and registration or no one does. CEOs worth their salt should be pulling this and protecting patients.
ACPs on the Haematology Registrar rota………one of the toughest of all specialities with arguably the most unwell patients in all of medicine.🤯 Haematology experience is desirable but not essential. 🤯
The advertising for egg donors by Scot gov is a massive ethical concern.
Our campaign on women targeted for egg donation is in @thetimes Thank you @VictoriaPeckham for this great piece highlighting risks to young donors, lack of honesty on ads, financial exploitation with payments of £985 @DHSCgovuk @scotgov stop this now. thetimes.com/comment/column…
