The long-term goal of my spiritual practice is to be Normal Guy Plus. I don't want to have weird meditator vibes or radiate transcendent serenity or whatever, I want people to meet me and think, "huh, he is a little kinder and more honest than I would expect"

A potential problem of ANY psychological or spiritual approach is that it closes the doors to completely independent contemplation. As powerful as an approach may be, it's a lens and you're taught that lens - you haven't discovered it for yourself. And that's fine. But instead…
Way more efficient than meditation when you can get it. But when you can’t there’s always m e d i t a t i o n

A great bodhisattva ambition is to adhere to a high standard of theory of mind, such that we make the cognitive effort to remember what it was like to NOT have certain insights. I have read entire books, by highly esteemed Buddhist master's, that were trying to be…

quarterly reminder that wrt "consciousness," an inner monologue is not a sign of anything except having an inner monologue you can think, reason, notice stuff on purpose, be self-aware, plan, and do pretty much everything else without having one
It is ESSENTIAL to remember that between a third and a half of people have NO inner monologue or dialogue. They don’t debate with themselves, they have no inner conversations – they exist in a blur of images and sensations and feelings. And they are all around you…
A rule of thumb that seems to maybe apply from personal projects to hundreds-of-persons megaprojects is that it takes a minimum of five years to do anything “completely” “new.” 🤔
I feel completely fine when I eat a lot of American cheese for a few days in a row. I always expect it to do something horrible to me. But sometimes I crave it
