Excited that our nucleolus mapping paper just came out today in Nature! Truly an amazing study from even more amazing due of @sofiquinodoz & @jiang_lifei w/ @LafontaineLab & Sebastian Klinge and other fantastic co-authors nature.com/articles/s4158…
Excited to share a new preprint! (1)🔬The nucleolus is the most prominent nuclear condensate, with a fascinating multilayered liquid-like structure, and is the site of ribosome biogenesis. But how does this multiphase architecture form and function? biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Great tools and tips for the field to study IRES-dependent translation. Beautiful dissection of true HOX IRES translation in developing embryos. Congrats to all @mbarnalab @KatLeppek!
A powerful toolbox to study IRES activity highlights the IRES-dependent translation of HOX mRNAs in a cell and tissue specific manner . embopress.org/doi/full/10.10…
Excited to share our recent work, which addressed a mechanism by which the eukaryotic ribosomes increase the fidelity of mRNA translation than prokaryotic ribosomes through the eukaryote-specific tentacle-like ribosome structure. academic.oup.com/nar/article/53…

Belated post! If you haven’t seen our recent work science.org/doi/10.1126/sc… , here’s a 🧵 highlighting the two techniques we developed to study subcellular populations of mammalian ribosomes and some cool findings these tools helped us uncover: (1/18)
Happy to share our new work with @haognguyen on targeting mRNA translation of oncogenes by RNA structure remodeling with a small molecule zotatifin. Congrats to @DuyguKuzuoglu an amazing postdoc and all the authors and collaborators! cell.com/cancer-cell/fu…
Thanks Levi Gadye and Laura Kurtzman for the thoughtful and creative press release! @UCSF @UCSFCancer
“Zotatifin, as a bona-fide ‘translatome therapy’ that blocks the production of cancer-causing proteins, expands the landscape of drugs available for patients,” @DuyguKuzuoglu on latest research w/ @haognguyen @RuggeroDavide @kevansf @ucsf ucsf.edu/news/2025/03/4… #PCSM

A much needed set of tools and standards to study cellular IRES. So happy that this study was done. I especially like the smFISH that shows tissue specific expression of isoforms.

Amazing and inspiring story on RNA binding proteins and translation specificity! Congrats to all!
Very proud of @ScientistJoanna for uncovering a new selective regulator of MYC mRNA translation and its implication in pancreatic cancer! She is on the job market, so keep an eye on her! She is terrific!
Our latest work is out in @Nature today! Using smFRET, we directly visualized recruitment of the eIF4F complex to the 5' cap of eukaryotic mRNAs and formation of an activated mRNA. Our findings reveal new and surprising roles for each eIF4F component. 1/3 nature.com/articles/s4158…
Very grateful for the support from @pewhealth for this project and @travisclantz who is an amazing graduate student who is taking the lead on getting this project off the ground!
Dr. Maria Barna from @Stanford & Dr. Christine Dunham from @EmoryUniversity are teaming up to explore global protein synthesis.🔬 Their goal: study how small molecules can boost protein production & revolutionize the treatment of diseases like ALS and Diamond Blackfan anemia.
Very grateful to this team for their support, hard work and dedication to make our lab a happy, friendly and awesome place. And we also don’t suck at the science. I just got promoted to W2 tenure track professor! 🎉 Thank you. @UniBonn @UniklinikBonn @ImmunoSens
