PI at the Center for Computational Biology, UC Berkeley. Transcription factors. Rational protein mutagenesis. Experiments. Machine Learning. Simulations.
Our new preprint went live on biorxiv. We show: 1) conservation of function without conservation of sequence for a transcription factor over 600 million years of evolution. 2) The key phenylalanine residues turnover, moving around. biorxiv.org/content/10.110… also moving to bluesky
Our opening for a postdoc went live today. aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF04350
We have a postdoc opening in our group at the Cleveland Clinic available to start immediately! The project will focus on how the microbiome impacts oral cholera vaccine responsiveness via immune modulation. Ideally suited to a cellular immunologist (see ad). RTs appreciated!
Good news! Our review article, "Commonly asked questions about transcriptional activation domains" is live! Thank you @sbarolo for inspiring the format. authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S09…
Our opening for a lab tech is live! aprecruit.berkeley.edu/JPF04129
We glad that A.J. is back. Not cool Twitter.
Thank y’all !! I’m back !! I really appreciate this! Now I have to be careful about posting diversity, equity, and inclusion topics. I was very surprised this happened!!
Received a Notice of Award from NIGMS for an R35 grant! Thank you NIH! Really excited to study different kinds of transcriptional activation domains! Contact me if you want to join our adventure.🥳
Our new paper came out last night in Genetics. We compare models for predicting transcriptional activation domains from protein sequence. academic.oup.com/genetics/advan… @UCBerkeley @berkeleyMCB
More good news! The first paper from my lab has been accepted at Genetics! Congratulations Sanjana Kotha for your hard work. But we have a biorxiv pre-print, but honestly the paper got a lot better in review. It will be be Open Access, so I will update when it goes live.
The first scientific paper from my lab went live on bioRxiv today: biorxiv.org/content/10.110… Transcriptional activation domains have been hard to predict from protein sequence. A phenomenal undergrad figured out why our mechanistic predictor works and how to make it better.
I am super excited that to receive a SFARI grant from the Simons Foundation! We are looking forward to characterizing patient mutations in transcriptional activation domains. Totally thrilled!
Extremely honored for this. Thanks to my lab, IHG members and staff and so many people at UCSF! Looking forward to advancing the IHG and genetics and genomics research at UCSF!
Another super backlogged tweet: I really enjoyed reading @LabShih 's preprint about activator and repressor TFs in plants. Excited to be collaborating now! biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
We've been getting some really great vibes about likely funding, so we definitely have space and funds for a postdoc if anyone is looking to study transcription factors or transcription.
I am PUMPED about the new Cohen lab single cell MPRA paper. It's very pretty and it's going to be super useful. Congrats Siqi and Clarice! @claricehongky My lab is excited to try thing this out. nature.com/articles/s4158…
I have a big tweet backlog: the amazing @LisaVandenBroec has a super cool preprint about kinases and phosphotases. Collaborating with Lisa is awesome. researchsquare.com/article/rs-220…
I am very upset about this Musk takeover of Twitter. I’m going to stop using Twitter for a while in protest. I will miss you all
For anyone trying to figure out what program to apply to at UC Berkeley, this flow chart has the key!
