Delighted to have prolonged close views of Cranberry Blue today on a sheltered heath beside an achingly beautiful fjord in the far north of Norway. A wonderful encounter for my @Mariposa_Nature guests too.
And the "lifers" keep coming. Arctic Ringlet, Northern Grizzled Skipp, Frigga's Fri. @Mariposa_Nature Led by @dunnjons and David Moore. Sunburnt, mosquitoed, soggy booted - but blissfully happy. Inside the Arctic Circle you won't see many species, but they are stunning!
Balkan Copper before breakfast anyone? 🦋 Also Bog Fritillary, Eastern Large Heath & Bulgarian Ringlet. The @Mariposa_Nature holiday to Serbia continues to amaze!
A couple more treasures from yesterday on a blanket bog in Swedish Lapland - Northern Grizzled Skipper, and Frigga's Fritillary. I absolutely love this part of the world - what a joy to share it with our @Mariposa_Nature guests.
Today at Durlston, Swanage the sun shining on this female Lulworth Skipper nectaring on Wild Thyme really brought out the crescent shape in the forewings. @savebutterflies @GreenDorset @SightingDOR @DorsetWildlife @BC_Dorset
Day 3 of the @Mariposa_Nature butterfly holiday to Serbia was spent around Stara Planina. This fabled butterfly spotting territory produced the goods big style. Balkan Copper, Hungarian Glider & Bog Fritillary were the highlights amongst many others.
Another amazing day on our Butterflies of the Italian Alps tour! Today had an ecology air to it, as Southern Swallowtail was found laying eggs on a member of the Apiaceae, with 7 eggs found on one plant. Spotted Fritillary was also seen laying on Perennial Yellow-woundwort.
