The May 3, 1999 tornado outbreak was a once-in-a-lifetime event. 10 tornadic storms, 69 tornadoes, 4 of which were violent (F4/5). The setup was so unique, you might dismiss it as a fluke. But it still offers important lessons for future forecasts. 🧵 1/10
World's cutest left-mover west of Moore, OK. Thing looks 3km deep max

strange smooth clouds, knew they were coming when the headache started
The tornadoes are stored in the balls

On many days in the summer, you can literally see a 1-to-1 correlation between corn production and forecast dewpoint maps
Let’s confuse Non Midwesterners: Corn Sweat
Rare plateau tornado in Zhouqun village, Qinghai Province on 7/15. This tornado occurred at an altitude around 13000ft, manifesting a sneaky rope out.
I know it’s super basic to most people that think about coding but man figuring out how to run soundings from a dataset in a google sheet is one of the most rewarding things I’ve done in a LONG time
