Yes please do take a look if you are involved in polling! The upshot is that "Who would you rather vote against?" is better at revealing which candidate people prefer in cases where people have negative views of both candidates Summary 🧵 here:
Re-upping this in light of recent events. Pollsters, you may be having trouble getting a clear read on undecided voters in a Trump-v-not-Biden matchup. The approach below might possibly help with undecideds who do not know that much about a new candidate. @ShenhavLab
New preprint! Thrilled to share my latest work with @esfinn -- "Sensory context as a universal principle of language in humans and LLMs" osf.io/preprints/psya…
In our new @CommsPsychol review, we explore how humans adjust learning to different types of uncertainty, why biases arise, and what this reveals about learning and psychiatric conditions. 📖 Read more: nature.com/articles/s4427… With @NassarLab & @haukeren
Congratulations to my advisor, @lukejchang for receiving the Presidential Early-Career Award!! We’re so incredibly proud of you ✨👏🏻🥹 faculty.dartmouth.edu/artsandscience…
Our lab (thefinnlab.github.io) is excited to review PhD applications this cycle! Check us out if you wanna do interesting stuff with brains and behavior in the woods 🌲🧠🌲Apply to Dartmouth Psych&Brain Sciences via Guarini Grad School (graduate.dartmouth.edu/admissions-f...) by Dec 1!
I am really beyond words to be able to share with the world what @bakkermichiel, @summerfieldlab, and I and a truly world-class team @GoogleDeepMind worked on for the past 2 years. Out today in @ScienceMagazine, “AI can help humans find common ground in democratic deliberation”
So excited to introduce this new work from myself, @ThaliaWheatley , and @meghanlmeyer out now in @PNASNews! pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pn…
Our retrodicting vs predicting movie events paper is finally out! We didn't think about "conversation" at first, but it turns out that conversation references play a major role in how we "infer" unobserved events in other people's lives.
Now out in @NatureComms (lead: @Xu_Xinming)! How do conversations shape how (and what) people guess about the unknown past and future (e.g., in other people's lives)? Paper/code/data: nature.com/articles/s4146…
I will be recruiting 💫two PhD students💫 for my new lab! (computational learning & memory applied to individual & interactive behavior, rouhanilab.com). Feel free to e-mail if interested and catch me at SfN! (poster 06 at 1 PM on Wed 10/09)
New in #JNeurosci from @tommy_botch and @esfinn: Stable neural patterns that underly how we interpret words grounded in sensory experiences are as unique to us as our fingerprints. @FINNLab_neuro @dartmouth jneurosci.org/lookup/DOI/10.…
Excited to finally share this preprint on bioRxiv! Here we uncover a novel role of amygdala in reinforcement learning (RL), within the framework of arbitration between competing models of the environment: doi.org/10.1101/2024.0… (1/n)
