I genuinely think people dont want to accept this because expanding the common definition of assualt to include coercion would make a lot of people realize they had either assaulted someone or been assaulted.

people love to conflate assent(expression of approval) and consent(actual desire and agreement) getting somebody to give in by wearing them down or applying leverage is not getting consent. but it sure does make victims feel complicit in their own violation
