Thought that was Liz Kendall on the front page of the Telegraph for a second there. RIP Ozzy.

I am happy to confirm Labour has no plans to abolish the welfare state

In the Universal Credit Bill @natalieben made a superb speech explaining how the Bill will make life tougher for thousands of disabled people. She will move a regret motion so that people can see that some of us would stop the Bill if we could. (Money Bills can't be stopped.)
"There are people who will never be able to work but their lives still have a purpose" Hear Hear! #TakingThePIP
"Last week, we saw the levels of unemployment rise to a four year high. Finding skilled, well paid job is challenging for everyone. The slogan those who can work should work is meaningless if employers are even less interested in making the adjustments needed" - House of Lords
Listening to the House of Lords debate it is clear that everyone supporting the "reforms" gets their "facts" from Fraser Nelson and the Times and have likely never seen a disability benefits form or met anyone with a disability...or tried applying for a job recently.
Lord Hendy (Labour) in HoL on #UCBill introduced to cut spending but it's not necessary in 6th richest country in the world. Cuts are irrespective of need which is unacceptable. Not 750,000 jobs waiting for disabled people to fill. Jobs available will not pull many out of poverty
Barely any Lords members in the House of Lords for #UCBill readings so they've given up on it. Probably because it's a foregone conclusion. Still, just shows how little the "Health Element" (LCW/LCWRA/ESA) are regarded.
Kendall wants to remove the perverse incentives to not work til you drop dead. Fortunately employers are crying out for 70 year olds- almost as much as they are for people with severe health difficulties. Learn to code Grandpa!
News from civil servants preparing Liz Kendall's pensions review. Kendall wants to look at "phasing in" the pension starting with 25% of a pension at age 68 and getting 100% of the pension at age 72. This will be represented as not affecting the triple lock. It's already the…
A different but still excellent example uncovered by @leith1076 today This is @GordonBrown speaking about Tory Policy in 2022. He wasn’t in parliament any more of course so wasn’t making any promises for the Labour Party he was just explaining what he was observing from Tory…
A message from Tory conference: Don't get sick Don't be disabled Don’t be on low pay with kids to feed Don’t rely on Universal Credit or public services If you do, get ready to pay for £43bn in tax cuts that benefit the wealthiest the most. [THREAD] mirror.co.uk/news/politics/…
What’s truly remarkable here is how @Keir_Starmer manages to completely miss the mark on why a million young people are out of work. Instead of, say, glancing in the general direction of the education system or considering that the jobs he keeps referencing have long since gone…
Debbie Abrahams tells PM his welfare bill “was poor legislation designed to save money for the treasury by cutting support for sick & disabled people, so far removed from Labour values of fairness & social justice, let alone compassion & common decency I get ashamed”
Pretty sure that isn't the Tory conference you're at at there Gordon 🤭. I blame Sue.

Ah the age the CSJ want it to rise to. Maybe now they aren't just demonising disabled people all the time, people might start to question their lack of expertise and terrible track record a bit.
Rachel Reeves warns state pension must be 'affordable' after government launches review - amid fears 'triple lock' will push age to 74 trib.al/buHuzCQ
Hard to read indeed...though perhaps a second read through would be a good idea actually.
This is hard to read. Impossible to calculate the human cost of the cruelty and failures of Universal Credit and our disability benefits system theguardian.com/society/2017/n…
"By axing it and giving them no say in what replaces it"
. @NewStatesman The Work Capability Assessment is failing. Labour will give disabled ppl a real say in how's it run newstatesman.com/politics/2015/…
Blast from the past: "A leaflet produced by the Department of Work and Pensions has been hastily withdrawn after it emerged that it contained fabricated quotations from fictitious people supposedly talking about their positive experiences of the welfare system."…
