Trump claims that Japan gave his administration a $550 billion "signing bonus" as part of the trade deal

Lutnick: "This is literally the Japanese government itself saying to Donald Trump, 'We will provide Donald Trump and the American people $550 billion of projects you choose. And we will give *you* 90% of the profits, America.' So basically Donald Trump can pick the projects."

This, from Trump, is even worse and more nonsensical than what Lutnick said. Trump's claiming that Japan just gave the US $550 billion "as a signing bonus," which is directly contradicted by the Japanese themselves. He doesn't even mention investment. x.com/SpencerHakimia…

It's funny that everyone is freaking out about Mamdani saying he wants NYC to run grocery stores, while no one is blinking at Howard Lutnick saying Trump is going to have the US government build government-owned factories - paid for by Japan - all over the country.

Setting aside that this is not the way the Japanese have described the deal, what is the constitutional authority that would allow Trump - without Congressional authorization - to build factories that would be owned by the US govt? Did we suddenly become a socialist state?

I cannot get over how bizarre this is. Lutnick is claiming that as a result of this deal, the US government will be building and owning factories making generic antibiotics, and that the Japanese govt will not be lending money to build the factories, but paying to build them.
