The Skrmetti case confirmed the constitutionality of bans on gender medicine in the US. I discuss the political rationale for regulating medicine and whether there is a case for extending bans on gender medicine to adults. Link in next post. ⬇️

The authors of the HHS report evaluating "gender affirming care" (link below) were mostly liberals. I was one of them. wapo.st/4lptULe
The US Supreme Court will be issuing more opinions tomorrow (June 18) at 10:00 AM EDT. The Skremetti case on the constitutionality of state bans on pediatric gender transition might be one of them. You can follow a live blog or check the court website.

We don't know exactly how this child was exposed, but the father should have know. better. This sounds like a case of "trans broken arm denial syndrome" where doctors downplay the risks of medical transition so because they don't want to be accused of transphobia.
A three year-old girl is pushed into precocious puberty after being exposed to topical estrogen through her trans-identified father. Kudos to the journal for using accurate sex based language in describing this horrific case. abstracts.eurospe.org/hrp/0097/hrp00…
🚨At 12, convinced I was a 🏳️⚧️boy trapped in a girl’s body. I told my parents I wanted my breasts removed. They were scared. They wouldn’t allow it. I didn’t understand why. At 12, I wondered: Why was my desire for breast removal considered such a BIG deal to adults? /1🧵⬇️

🚨 A new SEGM Digest is out! Youth gender medicine is transforming rapidly. Due to weak evidence, the focus is now shifting to ethics and regulation. Our June issue offers concise, scientifically grounded information to help those seeking reliable, up-to-date information. 🧵/1
A new short documentary by independent journalist and frequent BMJ contributor Jennifer Block (@writingblock) reveals how WPATH suppressed evidence in youth gender medicine—prompting leading medical organizations to endorse pediatric gender transition on a compromised foundation.
NEW DOC SHORT out. The fight over puberty blockers, hormones, etc. is often framed as inseparable from politics, but we show here why a broad coalition--yes, including lefties--is raising concerns or even supporting restrictions. jenniferblockauthor.substack.com/p/the-most-hea… YouTube link below.

Very disappointed to see @WinnipegNews talk about @jk_rowling and the pro-women movement as “anti-trans.” The movement is about safety, privacy and fairness for women. 1/3 winnipegfreepress.com/arts-and-life/…
A must-read that diagrams how Chase Strangio at the @ACLU and others in what @MattYglesias, for one, calls The Groups—the advocacy nonprofits that form a backbone of Democratic power structures—advocated for maximalist advances in trans rights and lost spectacularly.
How the Transgender Rights Movement Bet on the Supreme Court and Lost The inside story of the case that could set the movement back a generation, by @NickConfessore for @NYTimes.
The WPATH response to the SCOTUS ruling seems to reveal a thinking-process: Being a scientist means pursuing the evidence, no matter where it leads. An effort "to create an evidence base..." means a foregone conclusion, no matter the evidence.

@justdad7 Bonjour, here is your unroll: threadreaderapp.com/thread/1935319… See you soon. 🤖
BREAKING: U.S. v Skrmetti has been decided, 6-3, upholding the constitutionality of Tennessee's ban on gender-transition treatments for minors. This will likely entrench bans of puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones to treat gender dysphoria in 25 states.
Of course it is fine for a state to restrict an abusive act of medicalized self-harm on children, and no it's not a discriminatory act. Shame on the three Supreme Court Justice who dissented from the legally correct, morally humane 6-3 ruling that affirmed this self-evident…
The new study from the early Dutch cohort of puberty suppressed youth will require substantial analysis, but several important preliminary points can be made. /1
🧵New Dutch study finds that over 50% of those treated w/ puberty blockers (PB) report adult sexual dysfunction. No stats comparing early vs late PB was done due to small sample—yet authors conclude that early PB doesn’t impair sexual function. That conclusion doesn’t hold up./1
