The Inflation Reduction Act was one of most ill-considered pieces of legislation in American history. For the Spring issue of @CityJournal I show the ways the act and its implementation empowered activists, burdened the economy, and busted the budget. (Link 👇)

Wonderful piece by @pahlkadot and @robertmgordon on how state and local governments can improve efficiency by removing outdated rules and retooling their workforce. nytimes.com/2025/07/22/opi…
On the new @CityJournal podcast episode: @CharlesFLehman sits down with @reihan, @judgeglock, and @JKetcham91 to discuss the evolving dynamics within the Democratic Party, anti-institutionalism, the role of social media in shaping news, and more.
I'm suspicious of capital gain taxes in general, but of all the bad tax reform ideas, this has to be one of the worst. Married households already don't pay tax on housing price growth up to $500,000 over what they paid. Who needs a $1 or $2 million exclusion and why?
NEW -- Trump says he is thinking about eliminating tax on capital gains on home sales.
I actually think top government officials should earn higher salaries, but it is amazing to me that during Covid, more people did not bring up the fact that Anthony Fauci was the 2nd highest paid person in the federal government, making about $35,000 more than the president.

It is amazing, just statistically, that three of the current standout Democratic politicians all had self-consciously Marxist professor fathers: Zohran Mamdani, Kamala Harris, Pete Buttigieg.
Wait, the whole point of the IRA was to move more people to electric and away from cheaper things like gasoline, natural gas, and heating oil. Climate policy can’t be reframed as lowering prices because its goal is to focus on nonprice issues in energy production.
Democrats began to do this with the IRA, but rising electricity prices may give them a genuine opening to reframe climate policy almost entirely in terms of bringing down consumer costs.
We’re proud to unveil the Manhattan Statement on Higher Education, which recapitulates the crisis of the universities and calls on President Trump to enact six principles for reform. The time for decisive action is now. thefp.com/p/the-presiden…
Want to know how Vienna's housing sausage is really made? @TobiasPeterAEI explains @CityJournal:
Read @mattyglesias's post today! I agree that unfunded inclusionary zoning is a bad way to finance social housing, but Matt's post elides fact that IZ operates as tax on land as well as a tax on new construction. This dual character makes the politics of IZ reform tricky. 1/🧵
It's official! Incredibly excited to share this with you.
Introducing Tech and the City, a new series covering the latest in tech policy. @DannyCrichton breaks down the U.S. government’s new “golden share” in U.S. Steel—granting control without capital—and why it could set a dangerous precedent for American capitalism.
Mamdani is taking an excessive amount of the vote share. The votes should be redistributed to the masses who created them.
With the updated RCV totals just released by the Board of Elections, our campaign has officially earned the most total votes in a primary in New York City history.
