The pilot replicability assessment for our large meta-replication project is out in Q Open, offering some interesting insights. Replicated paper is perfectly reproducible & very robust, but fairly negligent w.r.t. construct validity and pre-specification. doi.org/10.1093/qopen/…

We have updates concerning this thread. The original article was retracted by the publisher, the author released a new response, the replicators briefly responded, and the author responded to response. 🧵
A re-analysis of Ciacci's (2024) "Banning the purchase of sex increases cases of rape: Evidence from Sweden" Journal of Population Economics reveals major issues. A year ago, reproducers Adema, Folke, and Rickne found coding errors driving the paper's key results. Let's unpack ⬇️

A new long-term follow-up on a cash grant programme in Uganda shows that impacts partly reappear during crisis times, shedding light on the challenges of long-term RCTs. Read today's article w/ @jrgptrs (@UniPassau) & @Rose__Julian (@RWI_Leibniz_en) to learn more:

The macro-rebound in energy efficiency interventions is important yet hard to study, they say. Here's our attempt to model & evaluate what happens on the "macro" (i.e. community) level after promotion of energy-efficient biomass cookstoves in Rwanda. academic.oup.com/wber/advance-a…

New version of our paper on supply-side constraints for technology diffusion - here, improved cooking stoves - in Senegal. The take-away message is that doing business for peri-urban vendors in rural areas is expensive & reaching villages is challenging. osf.io/preprints/osf/…

After one year, we got a response from the Journal of Population Economics about our replication of "Banning the purchase of sex increases cases of rape: evidence from Sweden", confirming the major coding error that invalidates the main results, but not retracting the paper. 1/2
🚨 REPLICATION REPORT UPDATE: One year ago, a tweet by @JohnHolbein1 alerted me, @OlleFolke, and Joop Adema (@Jopieboy) to a paper with a shocking result about Sweden’s law criminalizing the purchase of sex.🧵
