Together with my co-host @smreeteemehta we've started a new podcast: Nullius in Verba. A podcast about science - what it is, and what it could be. The introduction episode is up now! As I am going over old blog posts, here is a nice blog by Brent Roberts on qualities in graduate students that, in his opinion, lead to a successful career in academia. Still very good advice. pigee.wordpress.com/2012/11/08/a-l…
New blog post: Easily download files from the Open Science Framework with Papercheck daniellakens.blogspot.com/2025/07/easily… Downloading all files in an OSF project can be a hassle. Not anymore, with Papercheck! Just run: osf_file_download("6nt4v")

There might not be 'a scientific method' but there is a desirable property of scientific methods. If you are right, the procedure you use to make claims should tell you that you are right. And when you are wrong, it should tell you that you are wrong.
I've created a shiny app to browse through all (now 3400) open science blog posts. There is a 'happening today' button. Among others, Rolf Zwaan in 2020 on sequential analyses rolfzwaan.blogspot.com/2020/07/how-we…

Still playing around with creating an archive of open science blogs discussing the replication crisis. Here's an overview of when blogs first and last posted. 2016 and 2017 were a peak for psychologists interacting and communicating through in total more than 3000 blog posts.

Interested in the latest metascience? Come to Eindhoven October 17th to listen to Dr. Duygu Uygun-Tunç (University of Chicago) and Dr. Lisa Spitzer (Leibniz-Institut für Psychologie) as keynote speakers, and Dr. Aaron Peikert for a workshop collaboration through Git! All free!
Registration is now open for the PMGS Meta-Research Symposium 2025! Abstract submissions are still welcome—deadline: July 31. Plus: join our mini-workshop on coordination using GitHub on the afternoon of October 16. Find all the details & sign up here: paulmeehlschool.github.io/2025-07-16-sym…

No new episode this week! Smriti is busy teaching an introduction to psychology course, and Daniel is relaxing in his garden with a new puppy.
Just checking, before I draw too general conclusions, but did anyone enjoy the Metascience conference in London? People from my lab absolutely hated it. Not a positive comment from any of my peers. Did anyone think it was worthwhile?
A lot of discussions about open science in psychology happened on blogs. I have been archiving them and will make their content available. I remember 37 blogs (with 2827 posts!) but which blogs did I forget and are not on my list? Please share and reply with any that are missing!

Do you want to go to a metascience conference where AI will not solve all problems, you can ask critical questions, and El$evier is not invited? Sign up for the mailing list for the 8th Perspectives on Scientific Error conference in 2026 in Leiden! …esonscientificerror2026.wordpress.com
Excellent opportunity for a PhD position with the wonderful supervisors Frank Renkewitz and Moritz Heene job-portal.lmu.de/jobposting/5f8… “Models, Measures, Moderators - Exploration and Explanation of Heterogeneity in Psychological Replications” - great topic for a PhD!
Today I pushed the ‘Accept in Principle’ button on another @JSportsSci Registered Report. If you’re interested in finding out more about Registered Reports then read our editorial. tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…
Best recent piece of phil of sci I know of is by @HSJSpeaks. Social pressure NOT to make some point can corrupt an entire scientific literature. Original article on left; basic process on right.
New episode of @nulliusverbapod on exploratory experimentation. Why does exploratory research seem to be valued less? How can we do it well? nulliusinverba.podbean.com/e/experimenta-…
New blog post: Are meta-scientists ignoring philosophy of science? daniellakens.blogspot.com/2025/07/are-me… I don't think so, but I fear for reasons philosophers of science will not enjoy reading.
"The intensity of the conviction that a hypothesis is true has no bearing on whether it is true or not. The importance of the strength of our conviction is only to provide a proportionately strong incentive to find out if the hypothesis will stand up to critical evaluation."
