4.3 million children are in poverty UK govt won’t see progress on child poverty by 2029 even with high economic growth 📢 Our analysis shows under our central scenario only Scotland will see child poverty rates fall by 2029 in large part due to social security policies 1/5
As I told the committee, the proportion of pensioners not reaching MIS, which sets out what the public agree is needed for a minimum, dignified, socially acceptable standard of living, has actually gone up even faster than the main poverty measure. (2/4)
I was delighted to give evidence to this enquiry. As the video says "retirement should be dignified and not a struggle at the poverty line." @jrf_uk and @CRSP_LboroUni's Minimum Income Standard measures this. But what do the stats show? TL:DR it's not good news (1/4).
“Poverty is insidious. It isolates, damages health, and strips you of dignity. After decades of contributing to society, dignity in retirement is the least you deserve.” @Debbie_abrahams , Committee Chair We've published our report on pensioner poverty 👇

Average rents in England have reached a stonking £1400 a month, and averages rents in Scotland almost at the £1000 a month mark.
Some interesting trends in private rental inflation stats.. Rental growth is currently highest in areas where rents have typically been much lower - e.g. in parts of the North East of England (9.7% growth - joint highest rate for the region), and seaside areas.
Over 1.6m children are now impacted by the Two-Child Limit - 11.6% of all children This is a cruel policy that unnecessarily drags children into hardship It needs to go, and the longer it is kept, the greater the scarring effects on children's health and education will be

Around 50,000 people will be pushed into poverty by the Government's cuts to Universal Credit for sick and disabled people. Following publication of the Green Paper @jrf_uk highlighted the sleight of hand in the poverty impact analysis. The same applies to the latest version ⬇️
Actually around 50,000 people will be pulled into poverty by remaining cuts in Bill – this now our best estimate based on Govt’s impact assessments. @jrf_uk previously showed how DWP sleight of hand underplayed true poverty impact – same applies to this latest publication. 🧵1/3
