MAJOR NEWS!!!! 🌱🚨 After MONTHS of waiting, the @OfficeforEP has finally confirmed that both @NENorthWest and @WirralCouncil may have acted unlawfully and failed to consider key elements of SAC foreshore clearance proposals. More to come… @TonyJuniper
In July, decisions were made by @NENorthWest which has resulted in an unprecedented outcome in modern times. 0.5ha of the Dee Estuary SAC is now set to be destroyed on Wirral. @WildJustice_org have been helping to reverse this nationally significant precedent. PLEASE RETWEET!
One year on and yellow rattle now grows across all 2 hectares of these @lpoolcouncil meadows!! This important ecosystem engineer temporarily parasitises grasses, leaving more room for wildflowers to grow. Can’t wait to see these grasslands transform over the next few years 😍🌱
It may look like plain old grass now, but this 0.5ha plot will be teeming with wildflowers soon! We’ve been cutting and collecting clippings to help wildflower seeds germinate, and adding locally collected wildflowers like this yellow rattle. So excited for 2025 and beyond! 😍🌱
Ripping power from communities to appease developers will build resentment - not affordable homes. Developers will continue to prioritise profits over public need. We need a left alternative: democratic, sustainable development with councils in the driver's seat.

I was very humbled & hugely honoured to receive this award yesterday. Many thanks to @UlsterUni who made it a very special day for me & my family and friends.
We are delighted to award an honorary graduate degree to @donnarainey4 for her contribution to creating a more sustainable planet. Donna Rainey is being honoured for her rewilding work, both locally and nationally. Read more: ow.ly/vq5950Wj2ZK #WeAreUU
A day early for #NationalMeadowsDay, but just look at this ancient wildflower meadow I stumbled upon in Staffordshire the other day! Grasslands should be full of life like this beauty, but often fall silent. Restoring them is vital if we want to see nature recover 🌱❤️

I’m heartbroken to hear that the amazing community campaigner @Saralimback has died yesterday. Sara was one of the first people that supported me and @FriendsWESlopes on this app. She was kind and a badass who wasn’t afraid to call out assholes. She will be so sorely missed. 💔
On other allotment news @CllrEllieking of @bristolcouncil has just described Bristol allotment holders as “just private food growers” in “gated communities”. And the increase in rents as “only the price of a coffee once a week”. In a full cabinet meeting.
Approximately 15sqm, the only area managed by @RiversideUK allowed to grow over summer, and they’ve caved in and decimated it. The amount of time & energy it’s taken for @RiversideUK to leave this patch alone, from community petitions to seed application, has been massive 🌱

I urge the Government to back my Planning & Infrastructure Bill amendments. We were promised a win-win for nature and growth - we got a developer’s charter that will destroy nature. Let’s change course and deliver for workers and wildlife. theguardian.com/politics/2025/…
A quick reminder that gardens can make such important spaces for biodiversity. 4 years on and things have come quite a way for me… - over 30 marsh and spotted orchids ✅ - rocketing wildflower species richness ✅ - huge abundance of pollinators and other invertebrates ✅

Not seen in this part of northwest England for over 50 years - it was amaze to find Common Cow-wheat (Melampyrum pratense)! Unlike its cousin, yellow rattle, this beastie doesn’t parasitise the roots of grasses. Instead, it goes for woody plants, including oaks 😍🌱

From a single marsh orchid in 2022, this rare example of remnant lowland meadow in Netherley now has 28 flowering! <10,000ha of this remains in Britain which makes expanding naturally wildflower rich spaces like this so important🌱❤️ @lpoolcouncil @BelleValeLabour @CarlCashman

From a grass-dominated bank mown every two weeks in 2022, just look how it is now, cutting only after Summer - filled with wildflowers, bees and so much more. Big thanks to @lpoolcouncil for letting me manage these special places 😍🌱

The Planning and Infrastructure Bill offers plenty of deregulatory carrot for developers – but no stick. I’m proposing: • Penalties for developers who sit on land after gaining planning permission. • Powers for councils to block developers that repeatedly fail to build.
Not a great year for a lot of insects, but wow…can’t remember the last time I had this many bug splats on my car! 😱😍
