Worked great! BPS motor development campaign is DONE - we’re goin to space 🚀✨
All set up! Place your bets on if it works below 🔥
For a 2-stage spaceshot, high altitude ignition of the second stage is tricky to get right. My approach here is to dump a ton of heat into the prop as quickly as possible - this shot from Super 8 was 1000fps, played back at about 2.4% speed. The command-to-steady state time is…
Large solid rocket motors are surprisingly hard to light. They need ignition systems that can deliver lots of heat and pressure quickly, and head-end ignition solves that.
Open Sauce 2025! What a phenomenal event - I can’t recommend it highly enough. It’s like an enormous adult science fair for nerds and then sometimes there are astronauts

Just a bunch of nerds talking rocket science at #OpenSauce2025! Our VP of Engineering Brigette Oakes joined the stage with @TheBrianMcManus ,@Erdayastronaut, @joebarnard, @smartereveryday, @DJSnM and @Integza__. This crew is inspiring the next generation of dreamers and…
OMG I MET MARK ROBER!!!!! He didn’t talk much but was super nice

Thank you for everyone that came out to see our rocket engineering panel at @OpenSauceLive
Perfect segue to tell you that our buddy @BrookHFWillard filmed the Super 8 static fire on a RED Raptor 8K with Xelmus anamorphic lenses lmao. One of the coolest parts of living in LA is meeting people from the actual film industry who casually work with insane gear
Dudes be like "you don't need a fancy camera, the best camera is the one you have" while filming on a camera that costs 500 gorbillion dollars
Simplex V2 is the second largest rocket motor I’ve made - my goal was to ensure that Risky Batman (the propellant) burned consistently at a large scale and Mystery Goo (the liner) eroded slow enough to work in the full spaceshot motor
Timelapse of the International Space Station’s solar panels locking into place before the arrival of a cargo vehicle.
Most of these are from 2015-2017. Really glad that string of failures is over! Also really glad I’m not flying in a public park anymore - the long lens on these shots makes things look closer than they are, but still… yikes! Anyway happy 4th! 🚀
Happy 4th! 🚀💥 I hope your fireworks work better than my rockets
Still can't believe this thing worked. Big shout out to @Erdayastronaut and @considercosmos for letting me borrow some fancy cameras for this - there's a LOT of beautiful footage thanks to them 🚀
This rocks, although it kinda bobs more than it rocks, but it rocks youtu.be/Q7Pmgq2JKbI?si…
