I've pivoted a bit from criminal justice to disability journalism in the last year. If you have a media outlet, make sure you have disability coverage and not just "health reporting." They are very different! A thread of my recent disability-focused work. 🧵 1/
Our hearts ache whenever we remember the day we ate with spoons. We couldn't find bread to eat, and we could only find spinach leaves. We never expected to reach a stage where food becomes an unattainable dream, but we need food 😭💔 chuffed.org/project/131113
Babies in 🇵🇸 still need milk ‼️Only $5 d0nated yesterday‼️ Baby Misk has been deprived of vitamins, if she even gets to eat at all She's still growing and she needs your help to grow up strong ‼️G0al: $0 / $150‼️ Match just $5 to feed baby Misk chuffed.org/project/118420
The Doordash and similar discourse always start from leftists who claim a principled reason. They then get taken over by MAGA who don’t have any principled beef with delivery apps but just hate disabled people and think we’re lying. It’s one of those coalitions you talk about.
doordash isnt essential but food delivery is. its not disabled ppl's fault that their communities dont meet their needs in this regard enough that they have to rely on a shitty capitalist delivery app
oh no I am now getting genuine “DoorDash is essential for disabled people” replies on bsky
Mira can no longer distinguish between night and day. Hunger gnaws at her small body. The price of flour has risen, the crossings are closed, life has ceased, and it has become difficult to obtain food. We spent days without food, and Mira cries and says, "I am hungry." Mira…
“Why do you criticize democrats more than republicans?!?!” Because you told me I’m going to war against fascists and then put a dildo in my hand as my only weapon. Not even a good one. And I’m not allowed to talk about it because it’s “better than nothing?!”
Me at 13: “I want to be in a relationship. I’m afraid that won’t happen.” Therapist: “The only way you’re going to be with someone is if you pay them. Guys won’t find you attractive because you’re disabled.” This is why I became a therapist. The ableism is traumatic and harmful.
well no one would possibly believe the stories about brand new cadillacs now. so its 'the poor are getting hot meals'.
The left is very concerned with how poor people spend their money lately. A lot of the Doordash discourse sounds like Reagan era talk about welfare moms
Just saw someone blame the high temperatures on trump. Nothing will ever improve
I live in the south. My aunt lives in New Jersey. She was so sick with Covid once and since she shouldn’t leave the house… I guess she should’ve starved to death… NVM that food delivery and grocery delivery is not new
Doordash nonsense again debunked: “Disabled people could just get a caregiver instead of using food delivery.” My 83 year old disabled dad can’t even get insurance to pay for a caregiver. And he has Medicare + blue shield 1/
As a severely chemically sensitive person, my 3M painter’s n95 is brilliant when I’m exposed to paint, sanding dry wall, etc etc etc No it doesn’t block 100% of VOCs but it does block a lot as well as dust and particles!!
Are people prepared to discuss how Amazon is so aware of how much of the population is becoming disabled and relying on delivery that they also started offering more accessible virtual doctor’s appointments??
Oh also, since yall harassed me about it the first time, imma double down and say services like DoorDash and Uber should be nationalized. So there.

Good news! This account is willing to shop and pick up groceries for disabled people!! Tell them your needs and theyll hurry over or arrange for someone near you!! They’ve advised it, so surely they’re following their own advice!!!
My suggestion would be building community mutual aid networks for distributing needed resources. Which has been something that has been useful in my community. The only useless thing happening here is your vitriol for anyone who want to have a conversation.
It's ironic that these same assholes will say "you're not entitled to have people deliver food for you", but then in the very same breath will say "you ARE entitled to have an entire staff keep you imprisoned tho". They draw the line at delivery drivers but not facility staff 🙄
Today I was told that if I can’t cook simple meals for myself I should be institutionalized That people on disability should not be allowed to access “luxuries” like food delivery services because they’re unhealthy & expensive This is eugenics. Feeding oneself is survival 🧵
If I’m cooking, that the only physical activity that day I can’t also pick up heavy packages
I usually can cook simple meals for myself and/or one or two others a couple times a week. But it can often burn through a ton of energy, meaning it's the only productive thing I manage that day. Even I rely a lot on half-prepped stuff like frozen veggies and deli meat.
ableds having their first realization that disabled ppl simply die or suffer deeply without access to many inventions & services extending far beyond DoorDash will never fail to amaze me. like they just learned yesterday some ppl can’t stand, use limbs, etc. incredible stuff
