Friend was traveling & wanted to visit - I declined because they don’t take Covid precautions. They get home & tell me “omg I’m so sick - it’s a good thing we didn’t visit as this would kill you.” I asked if they considered the other people like me they exposed on travels. A 🧵/1
Ableism is why people think it’s ok to shame disabled folks for relying on food delivery services Why they tell us to “just microwave” something Why they say we would be “cured” if we ate better That we don’t “deserve” restaurant quality food They don’t want us to survive
ICE is offering $50,000 signing bonuses for retired agents to return to the job. This is what the cuts to Medicaid and food assistance are paying for. Giant bonuses to ensure the mass deportations and detainments can continue.
We shouldn’t have to wait for the “perfect victim” to bring an atrocity to light. If human rights have been violated, what the person did or didn’t do in their past shouldn’t matter. We must stand up for them. We must speak out. If we don’t, we all lose.
We all deserve the most basic human rights. They aren’t just for those we like or those who look like us. They aren’t just for those we agree with or who share our political values. There can be no social justice unless people are willing to fight to protect everyone.
Maybe if we called it a brain virus instead of a 'common respiratory virus' people would take it more seriously. "Hey, it's me Jim. Do you still want me to come into my air traffic control shift today? I've come down with a brain virus"
