The FEED THE WORLD mantra of Big Ag is not bad in and of itself. The problem is you also have to grapple with the negative impacts, including unrestricted expansion. But we DO need to actually feed people, and yes, yields do very much matter.
I will not read an article by Ezra Klein where he interviews Jews with different opinions because Ezra Klein speaks over Jews with different opinions = a sentiment I just came across. What? The discourse is bananas sometimes.
This story is blowing up on our site: 200 JBS workers in Iowa are losing U.S. work authorization. @Sentient_Media was told that unless they qualify for another exemption, they’re being instructed to leave the U.S. immediately. sentientmedia.org/iowa-meatpacki…

I know @TheBTI is controversial, but their food and ag work is great. And if you think they're all about bashing enviros, the speakers will be green hero Peter Lehner of @Earthjustice, @jennysplitter of Sentient, and me.
If you work on agriculture, food systems, carbon removal, methane emissions, animal welfare, deforestation, habitat and biodiversity loss, regenerative solutions, ag biotechnology... this is the webinar for you! One week left to RSVP: us02web.zoom.us/webinar/regist…

This crew of Ventura county field workers in the distance starts each day at 6:30am. At the right side of the photo are leeks ready to be cut and trimmed. The field to the left is a specialty parsley, some of which was recently harvested. #WeFeedYou
NPR chief executive Katherine Maher and her corporate team are addressing the network's staffer in what is billed as a 30 minute meeting. I am not attending, as the event is designated off the record. That said, I will post some elements as they are shared with me.

I've been very lucky that the folks at @51stnews have let me start reporting again, but this small-yet-mighty outlet has big ambitions: including hiring me full-time. We'd love it if you'd help support independent local journalism in D.C.! (And thank you a million times. Really.)
The 51st recently hired our first salaried employee (!) by bringing Christina on full-time as Executive Editor. Now, we need to hire Martin as our full-time reporter!!! You can help us get there by tossing a few dollars (or more...) to our fundraiser. 🥳 51st.news/help-us-hire-m…
Texas has banned cultivated meat, but before the ban can take effect, a restaurant in Texas will be serving cultivated salmon sushi, then pulling the dish ahead of the law's implementation. Read the full story: sentientmedia.org/texas-banned-l… via @sentient_media
I was not expecting betrayal by Elmo on a random Sunday. 2025, you always keep me guessing!
Fun to dip back into the world of cultivated meat while editing this great feature by @AttrideDawn. The sector has had its share of setbacks, but the companies that remain are getting creative — with quail foie gras and woolly mammoth meatballs. sentientmedia.org/can-cultivated…

When it comes to meat, buying local won’t make much of a dent in your carbon footprint. Most food-related emissions come from the meat itself, not how far it travels to get to your house. The most effective way to curb your food-related emissions is to eat more plants instead.
A new study looked at the impact of eating less meat on water quality in the U.S., and found even eating 10 percent less meat would have an impact: sentientmedia.org/eating-less-me…
