my biggest advice to undergrads that ask for career advice is 'don't talk to the people you don't want to talk to'
This is not a good trend... 🙃
I love the trend of companies publishing technical reports / blogs instead of spending a year+ in peer review publishing detention - get your research OUT THERE!!!! v excited to read
i wonder whether not being secretive about my ideas at all will ever haunt me back...
Some students can be ridiculously hypersecretive about their research (like concealing gene lists that are anyway in the public domain). Over time, they realize that not only nobody will steal their ideas, but that they'll be lucky if anybody is interested in them.
I absolutely hate this trend. These 'technical reports' are not scientific. They aren't falsifiable, don't reveal any real insights. Can't believe bioRxiv accepts them since they are basically just advertisements, and poor ones at that. This is why peer review is actually good.
But these aren't meant to be scientific publications - they deliberately lack enough detail to allow reproduction (because they are private businesses with IP to protect!). It's more like a brochure advertising their capabilities to prospective clients. Not a fair comparison.
Come join us next week! London has many "biomolecular modeling" companies and academic labs, yet there's no stand-out in-person forum, where everyone can discuss the latest advancements together - let that be in modeling of proteins, RNA, and/or all biomolecules of life!…
to 4o: rewrite this paragraph. to o3: rewrite this paragraph and DON'T MAKE UP ANY EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS, DUDE!
Come and join me, @_judewells, @_barneyhill, @jakublala and others in London on July 31st to hear some great flash talks on what’s next in comp bio + drug discovery lu.ma/dw9ijcrm
Linus used to speak to engineers in 2012 the way I speak to LLMs now.
Product idea: Notion except every keystroke doesn't feel like I'm SSH'd into a server on Mars.
it's official, i am moving to google docs -- the tab feature is a game-changer.
The EU has a once-in-a-generation chance to deliver on a bold new measure with the potential to vastly improve life for scores of startup founders, operators and investors. But Europe risks Europe-ing itself out of the opportunity. linkedin.com/feed/update/ur…
The new @METR_Evals results show that experienced developers think their productivity is increasing, but it's actually decreasing when using AI tools. Another place humans have this gap between perceived and actual productivity is when they're on CNS drugs like adderall.

✨ Congrats on the release of BAGEL ✨ I've been behind the scenes watching the huge amount of work from @jakublala, Ayham Al-Saffar & Stefano Angioletti-Uberti to make a framework for protein design that is grounded in decades-old Monte Carlo methods for denovo protein design!

3 things I love here: Open source Programmable protein design And BAGEL(s) ofc

Very excited to finally see what @jakublala has been cooking for so long! This is a different way of approaching the protein design problem. Very excited for the future of this pipeline!
