Olga Kamińska-Prokop, born 21 July 1922, ran from German-occupied Poland to join the resistance in Serbia. Caught helping escaped British POWs reach Turkey, she was put in a Belgrade jail, where she gave birth to a son, then sent to Berlin. To be guillotined there in 1943.

In July 1920, the Bolsheviks formed the Provisional Polish Revolutionary Committee to govern Poland after a Red Army invasion, which fortunately failed. In 1944, the Soviets created a similar body, which ultimately led to the establishment of a communist regime in Poland.

#OTD in 1942, the Treblinka German death camp began operating. In the following months, trains carrying Jews of all ages arrived daily. Over the course of the war, the Germans murdered around 850,000 Jews there.

Janusz Korczak, born #OTD in 1878, was the principal of the orphanage in the Warsaw Ghetto. In August 1942, despite a possibility of escape, he and his staff voluntarily accompanied 200 children to the Treblinka death camp, choosing to face death alongside them.

Czesław Marian Jankowski, born #OTD in 1880, was a lawyer and one of the pioneers of Polish scouting. During WW2, he was active in the resistance, organizing underground scout groups. In 1940, he was arrested by the Germans and murdered later that year in the Palmiry massacre.

Marcin Zieliński, born #OTD in 1886, was a Polish neurologist and psychiatrist who served in the Polish Legions during WW1. In 1939, he was captured by the Soviets during their joint invasion of Poland with Germany. The following year, he was murdered in the #KatynMassacre.
