Greatly saddened to hear this news. Atul’s passing is a tragic loss. He was brilliant, energetic, visionary. A kind and a happy being always willing to help.
Atul Butte died yesterday. The world lost a giant. A big bear of a man. With a huge smile. With love for everyone. With energy that could power a room. I loved everything about Atul. I loved how he was always happy. I loved how excited he was about science and helping people.

A more complete understanding of human genetics starts with accurate, high-quality reference genomes. HPRC is building a reference that reflects the breadth of human genetic variation, supporting better prediction, diagnosis, and treatment. Learn more: humanpangenome.org/samples/
Agree; improving CV risk prediction should be a top public health priority 60 y after CV risk equations were developed, no new biomarker has been added Remarkably, for a significantly heritable condition, even family history is not included let alone PRS & rare variants
In one of the largest studies testing cardiovascular risk prediction equations in 2.5M US veterans, the c-index for future events was only 0.65❗️ This is unacceptably low if we want to be serious about primary prevention and longevity.

Our work is out in AJHG "Natural selection acting on complex traits hampers the predictive accuracy of polygenic scores in ancient samples." Great collaboration with @dortega_delv & @emiliahsc, led by talented @lcgejunam undergrad @valenomics, now a PhD student at @BrownCCMB.

Phenomenal work by @iftikhar_kullo et al in @Circ_Gen demonstrating in an RCT that genomic + clinical risk score dissemination ⬇️ MACE 🫀, ⬆️ statin use 💊, and ⬇️ CHD testing burden🏥. 👩⚕️ Cardiac care is improved when genomics integrated risk 🧬is communicated to patients 🧑⚕️

We have an opportunity to save more lives around the world than ever before—and I want to do even more to help. That's why I'm giving away virtually all of my wealth through the Gates Foundation over the next 20 years.
Congratulations Thais! Shining brightly as always!
Official: I’m now a Professor of Medicine! This isn’t just a title - it’s a testament to the mentors who guided me, the collaborators who sharpened me, the mentees who energized me, and the family who supported me before titles mattered. This milestone is ours. Onward!
Makes me feel good as I have been preaching this for > two decades. So many are wasting so many health care dollars by routinely ordering LDL sizes. ApoB, without particle sizes, is the needed test routinely and Lp(a) once.
New genetic analysis in 200k people over 14 years ▶️apoB + lp(a) best capture lipid-mediated CV risk ▶️LDL particle size adds no additional info when apoB is accounted for academic.oup.com/eurheartj/adva…
