What do BuzzFeed, Rolling Stone, Forbes, PopSci and Real Simple have in common? They all know the best air purifiers, cooling sheets, gifts for mom, home saunas and cocktail kits. Meanwhile, independent sites actually testing those products are dying: housefresh.com/david-vs-digit…
Are you worried about AI turning us into mushy-brained monsters, draining resources, slurping your data, preying on vulnerable minds, wiping out jobs, choking websites, lying to you or not being useful? Here’s how to turn it off in search results: wapo.st/4712tmO

OpenAI’s Sam Altman says AI could “accidentally take over the world.” But what if that’s already happening — not through malevolence, but infrastructure, deregulation, and distraction? Let’s talk about the future being built under our feet. 🧵
The 2015 version of Google was 10x better, actually. Can we get it back please? 🙏
Then there’s the remarkable evolution in Search. We’ve created entirely new ways to search like Lens + Circle to Search, and we keep incorporating our most advanced AI models. Now AI Overviews and AI Mode are reimagining the types of queries people can ask and we can answer. The…

The end goal of Google seems to replace the human written content with a machine written regurgitation and cut out the human creators. I’m sure a few large enough corporate deals will get done but the open web will die that day.
This is how websites die. Data from @pewresearch shows that Google users are more likely to end their browsing session entirely after being presented with an AI Overview compared to result pages without one. 🔗 pewresearch.org/short-reads/20…
This can’t be safe.
Microsoft and Mercedes‑Benz are working together to let people access Teams from the car. Benz is the first car maker to enable in-car camera use for Teams while a car is being driven. The companies are also partnering to integrate Microsoft 365 Copilot into vehicles.
Google’s view of the future of the open web is no open web at all. The irony of the internet democratizing information years ago, only for AI companies to come along and ensure (once again) that publishing is only worth it for a few conglomerates. We’re going backwards.
Google is negotiating the future of the open web in secret with 20 big publishers Indie publishers -- or info sources Google doesn't approve of -- are getting *locked out* of discussions We are witnessing an AI information CARTEL in formation⚖️
This literally shut me down. I used to get clients who want to make toys because they visited my site for blog posts and information. Now they don't need to. Google scraped my content and regurgitates it at the top of the search. Zero visitors now. No clients.

How many cigarettes are you indirectly smoking due to air pollution levels? We used Berkeley Earth’s rule of thumb ( 🚬 = 22 µg/m3 PM2.5 concentration) to calculate the number of cigarettes people are indirectly smoking based on PM2.5 pollution in cities worldwide.
“At best, it’s spammy. At worst, it’s fraudulent, and it can create serious credibility issues for the journalist and publications involved.”
A PR agency is selling an AI tool that automatically answers pitches from journalists on services such as ResponseSource, HARO and Qwoted Journalists may as well cut out the middle man and just ask ChatGPT themselves, says PR expert
“If a song is created by artificial intelligence and listened to by a bot, was it even heard at all?”
Human cultural replacement. Not just AI music but AI listeners too - a fake and fraudulent way for Spotify to generate Ad revenue. Who needs humans when bots can click on links and trick advertisers into paying for fake engagement.
