My lab’s 5-year NIH R01 grant, awarded to study gene therapy for hearing loss, was abruptly terminated. I want to share how this action has been incredibly harmful and disruptive, not just to my lab, but to the scientific process itself. 1/15

Street design manuals may seem esoteric, but they shape the roads we all use—walking, biking, or driving. I shared my story because 100+ people die in preventable crashes in San Diego alone each year. This manual is good progress, but it doesn’t go far enough. We must do more.
San Diego’s new Street Design Manual is a step forward, but still falls short on safety. Hear from our co-founder @keenan_bike & experts on why it must go further. Our Vision Zero Coalitions urge the city to design for real human behavior & make safety #1 kpbs.org/news/public-sa…
An in depth expose of the attack on and illegal halting of @NIH funding! For so long there’s been bipartisan support for science and medicine. This is not the way to enact reform..and it is devastating science in the US, especially medical schools theatlantic.com/health/archive…
For the baby who never had a birthday. For the little Batman. For their Mom.
I have no words …
Today Kfir Bibas returned to Israel in a coffin. The animals that killed him, paraded his body in front of a cheering crowd of "civilians" Hell is not enough for these barbarians!
So, during the pandemic I had a young angry man who chose not to be vaccinated. He was convinced that his youth and vigour along with some questionable supplements would keep him healthy. He took no precautions and actually attended a COVID party.
4 things you didn’t know about Kfir Bibas: 1. His nickname is Fir Fir. 2. His favorite toy is a purple elephant. 3. He especially likes hugs and kisses. 4. Kfir has 6 cousins. They all miss him. Kfir marks his 500th day in Hamas captivity in Gaza today.
HORRIFYING testimonies from released hostages: • Hostages were kept in small cages and handcuffed if they resisted. • They were given tranquilizers. • They were starved. Many were given food, only to have it taken away as Hamas mocked them. •…

I just arrived in Miami coincidentally, and my Uber was a Venezuelan woman who was on the phone with her immigration lawyer as I entered the car. We talked over the ride, and she told me she was on TPS. She entered legally eight years ago and was seeking to get a green card…
The return of the hostages from Hamas captivity is of the utmost importance to Israel. I thought it might be helpful for some of you to hear just a bit more about certain individuals that Israel is releasing in order for that to happen. The sacrifice being made. A thread:
Some things are complicated. This is not. I choose to stand with the unarmed civilian held hostage for 471 days, as opposed to the armed masked men who take children, women, and others hostage.
This entire family was burned alive by Hamas terrorists on October 7. While you scroll and read about the hostage deal and ceasefire, don’t forget how this war began. We stand with the families of the victims and hostages who relive October 7 every single day. Never forget.
Very proud of one of our very own! Congrats Lauren and CoB, what an incredible job you do!
Thank you to the UC San Diego Mentoring for All initiative for the Mentorship Program Award!
Nos vemos el jueves! Excited for your talks Lennis and @FabianRChavez
