#Zing demise is a PITA. I want a cheap retail multicurrency payment card, issued by a big UK based FCA regulated bank. Minded to keep a small CR balance in a couple of ccys, and refuse to move it, or donate to charity, so they have the aggro of keeping the account on their books
Good article in ST. "These are unsentimental times. They demand not a performative politics of leftwing righteousness and the obligatory pronouncements about 'int'l law' and the 'rules-based order', with which Labour people are so confortable, but hard-edged Hobbesian realism"..
British Government bowel movement over US defense commitment reminds me of cancellation of 'Lend Lease' in October 1945. Dear UK - time you sorted out your own welfare/defence % of GDP commitments...
I suspect that Trump’s state visit will include guided tours to the Cabinet War Rooms, Dover tunnels, Biggin Hill, Bletchley Park, HMS Belfast. State dinner on HMS Victory etc etc. #DarkestHour
Back from very fun trip to Berlin with Mrs W -who loved being serenaded in a gay karaoke bar. Delighted to find that our previous near-neighbours were Christopher Isherwood, Bowie and his houseshare (!??), Iggy Pop. Sally Bowles meets China Girl. Only in Schoneberg....
Just back from Berlin. Not visited since 1985. Wowser, a few changes? Unter Den Linden, The Gate. Obs, the wall has gone. Sympathetic renewal of Dom area. Integrated RE, U & S Bahn system that London would die for. Lack of jams in inner city. I liked it.
I would ask you to please repost the below message as I would really like as many of you to visit the Gallery before it’s closed. It’s my great pride and joy especially seeing school kids amazed at the bravery of these fantastic VCs..
Sad for me. I’ve got this from the Imperial War Museums closing the Lord Ashcroft Gallery displaying around 200 VC’s representing the finest deeds of servicemen in UK’s history. Sadly into storage for the time being and my £5m cost to open lost. Please visit before closing…
Breakfast in Berlin. Zoogarten area. Young cafe owner talking about yesterday's Fed'l election. Highly pissed off. With everything. CoL. Security. Illegal migration. City bureaucracy. Existing order. Wants out of Germany. Strangely enough, we did not feel he voted AfD. #Dexit?
Visited the 600 courtroom in Nuremberg today. Where the 4 power tribunal sat and passed judgement on senior Nazis after WW2. A very thought-provoking experience, considering what is happening in the world.
The Vance speech was for the cameras and a domestic audience. The stuff that shit up the conference delegates happened in the side meeting and 1 on 1s.
Once again I am leaving the Munich Security Conference in a low mood. Amongst all the noise, the US signalled their plans for Europe, so things are becoming clearer. But things are clearly not good. This is what we now know, and what we now have to do about it:🧵1/17
European political leaders waking up to the fact that Trump could be the warm-up act to "POTUS JD" in 2028 through 2036...
Mrs W having a kitchen cupboard clear out The winner. A tin of strawberries in syrup. Best before 2014.. Good for another 25, say I.
Very sorry to hear news about Marianne Faithfull. She never gave up - I admire her power in clawing back from a very bleak place. Some great late career albums. RIP
Breaking: Last night thieves entered the Drents Museum in Assen, The Netherlands, with the use of explosives. They got away with precious objects from the ehibition 'Dacia - Realm of Gold and Silver'. The display features treasures from the ancient kingdom of Dacia. What a horror
BBC news tonight. Story about 'Traitors' FFS. Nothing about camera news team getting chucked out of Liverpooool, by authentic angry residents.
52 years. Which the tax payer is going to have to pay for.
