This year, the @iWalkSafe Program reached over 73,000 children and adults across Miami-Dade. Congrats to our poster contest winners: Sariyah Mortimore (@fcmk8) Jasmine Quilteravila (@westviewk8) Sophia Echenique (@HialeahElem) #YourBestChoiceMDCPS
A gentle reminder that this is still illegal in 95% of America.
Happy National Child’s Day! Today recognizes that every child has the opportunity to pursue the limits of their talents and ambitions. Active transportation is important for children, and we encourage everyone to support it! @themiamiproject @univmiami #WalkSafe #BikeSafe

Miami-Dade TPO staff participated in UHealth’s Walk, Bike & Roll to School Bike Lane Painting Party at Coconut Grove Elementary School to emphasize the importance of providing safe, active transportation options for children while honoring the legacy of Ruby Bridges.#MiamiDadeTPO
Miami-Dade TPO joined efforts with UM’s WalkSafe/BikeSafe Program and Miami-Dade County DTPW’s Vision Zero initiative to host a "bike bus" on Matilda Street for "Bike to School" Day at Coconut Grove Elementary, promoting safe, active transportation for children. #MiamiDadeTPO
Sadly, 40 years of broken promises by many (not the funders of our grant, but others) also meant that in the year 2024, there are still kids forced to walk on a dirt path to school. On @RubyBridges Walk to School Day, no less. Unacceptable.
The utterly superfluous (there's no connecting lane to it) dedicated right turn lane was also closed off, thus providing a PROPER setback from the sidewalk for families from 37th Ave. traffic.
Meanwhile, at @FrancesTuckerES, our sister program, @iWalkSafe, was busy working with @KERR_MPD's team to calm traffic. This school has more #walktoschool participants, and closing down Williams Ave eliminated the right turn on red dangers at the school's present crosswalk.
The writing is on the wall in bright red fluorescent neon: Protected bike lanes linking neighborhood streets with schools reduce auto congestion: coconutgrovespotlight.com/2024/11/14/wal… Plus, bikes get kids excited to go to school AND facilitates their health. #BikeGrove2024
It's National Injury Prevention Day. Let's start by encouraging engineers to eliminate right turns on red AND any walk signal that conflicts with green light. Make traffic signals unambiguous for the safety of kids and families. #BeInjuryFree @americawalks @injuryfreekids

The big community Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day in @CoconutGroveBID is ON! The post-hurricane rescheduling has allowed us to recognize the @RubyBridges Foundation this year as part of the community efforts to make walking and cycling to school safer for kids and families.

An amazing #WalkToSchool Day with @MDCPS today! Thank you, @WestHomesteadK8 for having us, and the huge community support from @MDCPSSouth @GoMiamiDade @MyFDOT_Miami @miamidadetpo @MiamiDadeFire @MiamiDadePD @JuanM8774, @southdadeband and many, many more! #WHK8

Our team sends massive congratulations to Dr. Jayne Greenberg, chosen as one of the five recipients of the 2024 @FitnessGov Lifetime Impact Award from @HHSGov. We wish Dr. Greenberg well as she celebrates this momentous achievement in our nation’s capital.
Miami's drivers are getting CAUGHT. @MDCPS school bus cameras reveal the severity of Miami's aggressive driving problem, catching 11,500 violations in 2 wks. That's ~1,150 Miami drivers PER DAY violating the law at the expense of children's safety. wsvn.com/news/local/mia…
