"Kurosawa, when he got his Oscar, when George [Lucas] and Steven [Spielberg] gave it to him, he said, "I'm only now beginning to see the possibility of what cinema could be, and it's too late." He was 83. At the time, I said, "What does he mean?” Now I know what he means."
What are you gonna do? Roll over and die? Your reasons for quitting are as fake as your reasons to keep going — both are just stories you tell yourself — but for some reason, you choose to swallow the poison.
Captain’s log: you don’t properly mythologize yourself. You come up with incredibly creative lore around the low functioning, low self-esteem version of yourself. But you don’t apply the same creativity to writing lore and that reinforces the high functioning version
You should constantly be lore-maxxing, especially in bad/unpleasant situations. One way I endured being punished as a child was to think about how different things would be one week/month from the date of punishment.
Some things are just meant to be endured—transatlantic flights, bad luck, the process of grief, post-operative pain, some of the ennui that comes with living and ageing.
"You have to endure bad luck" — Prof G. "You have to find a way to stick it [downtime] out, to prevail — Harrison Ford "Na who give up, fuck up." — Unknown but wise philosopher.
