BREAKING: Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to a ceasefire, effective at midnight tonight.
I fear it's going to take a very long time to reset relations between Thailand and Cambodia after the fighting is done - at a time when an increasing number of crises require transnational cooperation.

Lets hope this goes smoothly & ends the dispute. Too many lives have been lost & much damage has been done. The ratcheting up of nationalism, the targeting of migrant workers, the implementation of the conscription law all too need to stop. #NoWarThaiCambodia

Some are seeking to explain the origins of the Thai-Cambodia clash by invoking domestic rivalries in Thai politics. My thoughts on why this theory makes little sense, and why the conflict is far better explained by an international family feud: coffeeparliament.com/p/on-the-domes…
This is probably the most grounded reporting on the #thaicambodiaborder I've seen so far from the Cambodian side - solid work from @CobytHobbs. We'll never know who really shot first and far more important is how the fighting is affecting everyday Cambodians and Thais.

Excellent thread by @DrLeeJones. This point is vital. Both regimes in #Cambodia and #Thailand are struggling economically and politically, and this distraction serves a purpose. For #Cambodia watchers, I'd add that the conflict reveals how firmly @hunsen remains in charge.
So, in essence, two regimes with fundamental structural weaknesses, both with weak democratic legitimation, are engaged in a dangerous face-off that has little to do with the the land being disputed and much to do with their miserable internal politics. 14/14
Interesting article from @Thenationth. It's long been clear that Hun Sen remains (the) major force in Cambodian politics, and HBH is perhaps his closest General, but it seems clearer still that Hun Sen remains in the driving seat in #Cambodia. nationthailand.com/news/asean/400…

Note: It's very difficult right now to get a clear picture of everything right now. Most news lines we're getting here are mostly from the Thai army. We're carefully checking and verifying as much as we can as well as looking at Cambodian sources. Thanks for your understanding.

Well, we can all guess how this will end. Bingo cards at the ready folks, there is no doubt a list of soon-to-be ex-Cambodians somewhere in Peace Palace. Another dark day for Cambodian politics.
