In what ended up being only the second most important piece of church news yesterday… I am delighted to say that I have been recommended to train to be a priest in the Church of England. Thank you to all those who have been with me on my journey so far and prayed for me.

Devastated at the #AssistedDyingBill passing through the House of Commons - a tiny majority of 23 on a Private Member's Bill is no way to pass through legislation that will drastically alter how Disabled people trust and engage with healthcare professionals.
Strikingly 69.4% of ethnic minority MPs who voted today, voted against. That is up from second reading. #assistedsuicide #AssistedDyingBill #AssistedDying
The Speaker has confirmed that only five 'non Kim' amendments will be voted on on Friday. All these elements of the Bill are now permanent. A 'yes' vote at Third Reading is to accept: 🚨Any doctor can raise ending a patient's life, no matter how vulnerable the patient,…
One of the more unexpected moments of this year so far...
An impromptu serenade to one of our swan friends by the wonderful Cambridge University Schola Cantorum
Very excited to be singing for a final time with Cambridge Schola this Friday alongside the @BBCSingers in the splendour of @Ely_Cathedral This will be simply unmissable (and don't worry it doesn't go on 'all night'...) Tickets: elycathedral.org/events/cambrid…

I enjoyed reviewing Sue Anderson-Faithful and Catherine Holloway's, 'Women and the Anglican Church Congress 1861-1939'. My review is now out with the Journal of Anglican Studies. cambridge.org/core/journals/…
#PaSymp25 the 4th speaker this morning is George Palmer of @EmmaCambridge talking about Parish Magazines & Political Communication in England 1885-1914 @BeatKumin @My_Parish
Kim Leadbeater claims today her bill has been “thoroughly strengthened” in Committee. Views may differ. Here’s what the Committee thinks MPs should sign off
Church in Newark faces £600k shortfall once cap on reclaiming VAT imposed churchtimes.co.uk/articles/2025/…
Today is the feast of St Kyneburga. She was a seventh-century Christian convert and later abbess of Castor (nr. Peterborough). The church at Castor is the only church in the country dedicated to Kyneburga. It has wonderful wall paintings and an angel roof (c. 1450)

The behaviour of Kit Malthouse MP in the Committee was disturbing. He appeared to be threatening organisations representing people with Down’s syndrome simply for criticising the Committee’s decision. We will not be silenced in our desire to protect the vulnerable. 🧵3/3
MPs have voted down an amendment to protect people with Down’s syndrome in the Assisted Dying Bill😢 Several organisations representing people with Down’s syndrome made clear an explicit protection in the Bill… 🧵1/3
Very excited to be hosting a conference 12 June at @stedwardscamb for scholar-priests. Find out more details here scholarpriestfellowship.co.uk Please do pass this on to priestly-theologians and other theologians who might be interested.
Kim Leadbeater may regret stacking the deck so heavily - these ‘expert’ witnesses are quite alarming. #AssistedDying
Some ‘highlights’ of the Leadbeater bill evidence this week. These people are terrifying
First shipment has arrived! If you’re interested in a copy I can get them at discount for £54. I know, it’s expensive, but basically it’s like a good bottle of wine. But the book will last longer!

This would make such a good Come Dine with Me episode...
This picture is so Scandinavian 😎 The president of Finland and the PMs of Norway, Sweden and Denmark dining together - I love it.
