Replacing top positions at city hall can be very pricey, and the public pays. Paul Mochrie was respected, well liked and doing a good job by all accounts. And for the record, if someone really leaves willingly (or “mutually”), they don’t usually need to be paid a severance.
5/ Mochrie is Vancouver’s 4th city manager in 17 years. Gregor Robertson replaced Judy Rogers ($572K severance) with Penny Ballem ($556K severance) then replaced her too. A pricey tradition of turnover continues. #vanpoli #bcpoli
Just in: The City of Vancouver's most senior bureaucrat, City Manager Paul Mochrie, is out, after Mayor Ken Sim announces that he and Mochrie have "mutually agreed that it was the right time for a leadership change."

My motion for 30k/h speed limit on residential streets comes before City Council Tuesday. It's work based on advocacy of many local orgs like @WeAreHub and @bccycle, the previous council, my own personal experiences, and a growing worldwide safety-first movement to slow down...

The office’s creation stemmed from a 2019 motion introduced by then-Coun. Colleen Hardwick, who said Macdonell’s hiring in 2021 would mean that “for the first time, the city will have independent assurance of the stewardship of public funds.” theprovince.com/news/vancouver…

This recent Paris development has 50% subsidized housing (plus 30% privately owned & 20% rent-controlled), a grocery store, schools, a metro station, & a park maned for MLK Jr. And beautiful architecture. They're kicking our butt.
NEW PARIS CENTRE: This is VERY good. Clichy-Batignolles (former rail yard lands), one of many transformations/new centres at Paris Metro transit stations planning or being built around the city. Dense, mixed (with an urban IKEA, grocery store, shops, services, community…
The legislated oversight board for the Vancouver Police only found out about DTES street sweep operation Task Force Barrage and $5m price tag after Sim & ABC announced it in a public media event. Legal? This seems inconsistent w/ 27 & 28 of the Police Act. Heckuva scoop here.
The chair of the Vancouver Police Board said it learned about Task Force Barrage through the mayor’s announcement in February. ctvnews.ca/vancouver/arti…
