SpaceX investing $2billion into xAI doesn't mean that $2billion has changed bank accounts. It can be in the form of things like launch credits, say if xAI was going to launch data centers into space. Consider that Eric Schmidt said one of the reasons he acquired Relativity is…
The first public official to promote building large data centers in space was @SenatorRounds (Chair of the Senate Armed Services Committee on Cyber) was, so it was exciting for @EzraFeilden and I to share with him more about what @Starcloud_Inc1 is building. Great to see this…
As with most things in space, it hardly matters what one thinks the likely uses are. Find *one* that makes sense, and the rest will quickly follow, because the incremental cost of adding capacity is negligible compared to getting started.
What's weird today is the hardest thing about building data centers is getting the land, approvals, and reliable power Stealth data centers in sun-synchronous orbit solve this pretty handily. It's seemingly inevitable for Earth to have a ring system of laser-meshed GPU clusters
Geopolitically, nothing matters more than winning AI. These tariffs, as constructed, essentially guarantee that America will lose “AI” by making America the most expensive place on earth to build AI datacenters. The semiconductor exemption was irrelevant for AI. Datacenter…
Surprisingly, this may actually be the 𝐛𝐢𝐠𝐠𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐨𝐧 to build data centers in space - it can take decades to get permission to build them on Earth! Not only will it be cheaper in space, it will also be much faster! 🚀
The @Starlink V3 satellite will be a game changer! It will allow the system to scale considerably in the most congested parts of the network, improve the uplink-to-downlink capacity ratio, and be able to deliver gigabit connectivity to individual user terminals. Possible only…
And with a glimpse of the future, views from Starship entering Earth’s atmosphere were made possible by Starlink. Soon, Starship will launch our V3 Starlink satellites, which will add 60 Tbps of capacity to the network per launch – more than 20x per Falcon 9 launch today
Excited to announce @LumenOrbit's $11M Seed round, which fuels our plans to build huge data centers in space🚀 We’re launching our first satellite mid-next year and are now hiring exceptional engineers, so reach out if that sounds like it’s for you! Huge thanks to our Seed…
Starship is a big step forward on the Kardashev scale, as it leads to harnessing vastly more power from the sun
NEWS: @SpaceX in an FCC filing today seeks to deploy up to 29,988 @Starlink satellites, matching the number initially requested for its 2nd generation Starlink network – Back in 2022, the FCC only granted permission for up to 7,500. This means Starship is ready to go to work!
Today is demo day at @ycombinator 🚀 Huge thanks to our group partner @t_blom and the rest of the YC team for your support of @LumenOrbit over the summer! 🙏🙏 Just getting started! 🏃🏼♂️➡️ @adi__oltean @ezrafeilden
Very proud to release our white paper today outlining Lumen's long term vision - read it here: lumenorbit.com
Virtually nobody is pricing in what's coming in AI. I wrote an essay series on the AGI strategic picture: from the trendlines in deep learning and counting the OOMs, to the international situation and The Project. SITUATIONAL AWARENESS: The Decade Ahead
