In non-election news, my co-author (@annadaniellefox) and I have a paper out in @Gend_Soc! It's called "Walking the Orientalism Tightrope: How Muslim Americans Construct their Gender Ideologies" …urnals-sagepub-com.proxy.uchicago.edu/doi/10.1177/08… In it we argue...🧵

It’s the posting of someone desperate to save their rep after angering their base. Good.
no one should ever be posting like this lol
We have to understand how so many institutions—like the university—rendered themselves obsolete in most American lives by structuring around elite interests. We have to propose an alternative that wouldn’t return us to a broken pre-Trump era but to something actually better.
NPR was corporatized and conservatized. Don’t care where you are on defunding it but if you’re not including that in your critique you’re being dishonest.
Dems are selling out to AIPAC at the expense of their own base and it's not even profitable for them. Incredible.
POLITICO - Cash on Hand 🔴 RNC - $81M 🔵 DNC - $15M
“Contrast her blasé dismissal of horrifying accusations of complicity in genocide with her solemn, validating tone when addressing accusations of antisemitism. The latter she treats as urgent and consequential, the former she frames as a nuisance.”
AOC adopted a smug posture to justify her indefensible vote to send more money to the Zionist regime. Her indifferent tone was not incidental. By saying “of course I voted no,” as if this were a political no-brainer, she’s attempting to revive a defunct electoral adage: that…
It’s worse than “Gaza is being starved and destroyed and no one cares.” It’s that hundreds of millions *do* care and are powerless to stop it. We need a world where that can never happen, where the masses actually have political power.
The Israelis are holding trucks full of food outside while a whole population starves. And they're doing it thanks to the unified support of every element in mainstream American politics.
You voted against an amendment that other socialist reps voted for to strip funding from Israel's military. You then came on this website and defended funding the iron dome. This is why you are being criticized.
Palestinians have the right to end mass starvation by any means necessary
6000 @UNRWA trucks waiting at the border to feed those hungry babies, those hungry mamas and babas, those hungry kittens on the street. 6000 trucks could feed them for three months. But your tax dollars won’t let that happen.
Important to remember the NYT was central to the racist incitement campaign against UNRWA (which actually distributed aid), uncritically laundering Israeli “intelligence” linking the UN to Oct 7 and running nonstop lurid false tabloid headlines -> columnblog.com/p/nyt-wsj-laun…
If you set a movie theater on fire and lock all the exits, that does not highlight the danger of going to the movies.
The dam of Gaza genocide denial has well and truly broken. While Israel’s supporters in the West still reject the charge, many media outlets are coming off the fence. Genocide scholar @martinshawx reflects on this shift in the discourse for @newlinesmag. newlinesmag.com/argument/the-d…
We’re not meant to be numb. You’re not meant to look away. That ache in your chest? That anger in your gut? That feeling you can’t shake that makes you feel like the world should suffer and tremble to finally wake up and put an end to this? That’s your humanity refusing to die.
Also there is no danger to anyone's life in dismantling Israel. No one is calling for a violent end. It can be done in a legal and orderly way just like the end of apartheid South Africa or the division of Nazi Germany. Most of the land that "Israel" is claiming isn't even…
my first instinct was to ridicule. on further reflection, i still feel like ridiculing this. reflected a third time—its actually more ridiculous. but i like appeals to materialism. when israel enacts violence on far more than half of the worlds palestinians, what do we call that?
A child was starved to death and Barak reports it as the child “gave up her fight for life.” My God.
Four-year old Razan Abu Zaher gave up her fight for life on Sunday. She died at a hospital in central Gaza from complications brought on by hunger and malnutrition, @CNN reports share.google/X06Ydl5AUQZmmE…
14 million children in the US are hungry. Instead of feeding our children, our tax dollars are going to starving Gaza’s children. The siege and blockade of Gaza would not be possible if you weren’t paying it. We have to fight for a world that is not this evil and cruel.
Matt Y thinks I was being unfair to Schumer and Jeffries because there’s a nonstop stream of images of emaciated children on people’s timeline I gingerly suggested leadership of the alleged opposition party say something critical about it rather than continuing to arm and fund it
Good. You shouldn’t get to enact a genocide and then go gallivanting around without consequences.
Finally. Two Israeli soldiers have been arrested in Belgium facing accusations of war crimes in Gaza. The days of impunity for Israelis are coming to an end.
We are long past any redemption for this Western world order. The famine imposed on Gaza by Israel, with it prouldy beaming images of emaciated children to the world with impunity, makes clear once and for all that whatever this world grants you is soaked in the blood of Gaza
Yup.
The theory of change that if people around the world make demands of their states to stop something and change course—which reasonably people tell themselves is operable—has been shown through the Palestinian cause to be nonexistent. We should reckon with that fact.
