This is where the federal government’s time & effort with respect to the changing world of college athletics should be directed. Instead of trying to perpetuate a model reliant on capping athlete pay, work on finding new ways to fund non-rev sports.
A huge part of Trump’s executive order references the financial challenges of Olympic sports. If he really wants to leave a legacy in this arena, he should use government money to fund them. usatoday.com/story/sports/c… via @USATODAY

For those who aren’t familiar with Arthur Bryant, I’ve been co-counsel with him, and he’s the real deal. I refer to Arthur as “the Jeff Kessler of Title IX.” It’s worth listening to what he has to say.
A new era of compensation for college athletes is here. Are the Title IX lawsuits coming soon? (spoiler alert: yes). Arthur Bryant, lead counsel for female athletes in Title IX cases for 3 decades, discusses the looming Title IX challenges to athlete pay sportswisepod.com/s1e91
Tulsa’s football coach says, based on the player payroll budget the program has, that it should be able to compete with other teams in the region (except those in the SEC) for recruits. The ability to pay players allows schools to recruit at a higher level if they have the $.
"We’ve got money in the bank. We’ve got NIL. We’ve got rev share. There’s no reason we can’t compete with the Oklahoma States and Kansas States of the world." — Tulsa HC Tre Lamb
I’d like to report a train wreck.

Thank you @sportslawyers and Bobby Hacker for the opportunity to discuss the profound implications of the House v. NCAA settlement & the dawn of college sports revenue-sharing era.

Spot on Ralph. The illusion that competitive balance ever existed is comical.
This framing continues to bother me. A lot. Competitive balance in college sports has always been distorted by resources and revenue. The richest schools have always had an advantage by paying coaches, building facilities. But now, when it’s about paying athletes, it’s a problem.
Another week of new false hopes for leaders to hold on to rather than creating a sustainable model for the future of college athletics. The cost of doing nothing is real and the history books will reflect this in detail when it’s all said and done.
The sentencing of the man admitting to killing four Vandals in 2022 marks the end of the criminal case and brings a sense of justice to our Vandal Family. We will not forget Kaylee, Madison, Xana and Ethan. They will forever be honored at the Vandal Healing Garden and Memorial.
Chuck had bigger hits, but this masterpiece from the "Children of Sanchez" soundtrack is beyond beautiful. RIP to one of contemporary jazz's greats. youtube.com/watch?v=bz2JEI…

My favorite wrestler of all time. RIP Hulkster🙏. That's my son Josh with Hulk Hogan at the Capital Center in Washington back in the day.
With 27 lawsuits and counting over eligibility rules, it looks like the long-rumored shift to a straight five seasons in five years may be happening... at Division II.
Division II Management Council supports a proposal for five seasons of competition and advances other proposals at its meeting earlier this week. 🔗 on.ncaa.com/25JulyDIIMC #MakeItYours
It’s long been rumored that the NCAA will change its rules to allow all athletes to play five season in five years. Looks like that may happen at the D2 level. I assume DI is waiting to see what happens with all of the eligibility rules litigation and federal legislation.

Hulk Hogan vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 18 is still the greatest wrestling match of all time, to me. Look at that crowd. It's what pro wrestling is all about.
A bill has been introduced in the Senate that would allow college athletes to unionize & collectively bargain. It would amend the NLRA so that it covers private and public universities, and require the NLRB to recognize schools and conferences as multi employer bargaining units.
On a potentially historic day on Capitol Hill - when an all-encompassing college sports bill could advance out of committee - two Democrats are reintroducing a bill that does permit what many within the industry crave: collective bargaining with athletes yhoo.it/4mcnS0R
This one hit hard. Similar to Tom Petty. Really no words, although it’s probably a miracle he lived as long as he did.
I don't think its a good sign for the new order in college athletics that a P4 commissioner is essentially saying "pretty please follow the rules or this won't work." espn.com/college-footba…
