IMHO dying is not as bad as you think. Powerful piece from Doctor Kathryn Mannix on why we need to talk about death.
Always grateful (& relieved) when a fellow writer leaves a positive #BookReview 📚 Thanks @SpareWriter 🧡 If you'd like a copy, please support your local independent book shop, & here's a link for international purchases. bit.ly/3TomNb0
A superb read, delivered with sensitivity, insight and respect, about living & dying. Explores the immense importance and value of talking openly, with professionalism, support & kindness, about death & dying instead of avoidance/euphemisms. Excellent on audio. @drkathrynmannix

Very sad to hear this news. Ken was a champion for palliative medicine, a founding member of @APMPostTweets, & was instrumental in persuading @RCPhysicians to accept pall med as a medical specialty. He encouraged me to 'knit my own' training scheme. I'll always be grateful.
Sir Kenneth Calman was an outstanding Chief Medical Officer for Scotland and then England. He was a great leader and reformer in public health and academia as well as undertaking wider public service. He was also a lovely man, courteous to all. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…
Zero responses from @BBC @BBCr4today @DHSCmedia @NHSEngland @UKParliament @thetimes @guardian @Telegraph Anyone got any intros? @bbcnickrobinson can you help? It's fascinating watching the loss of language around dying. @susie_dent
Q for healthcare institutions, mainstream media, policy makers: Do you have a language policy to guide employees' choice of words about dying*? Are D-words encouraged? Is 'passing' deemed acceptable? (*Grieving people get to choose words they can bear) bit.ly/4lD5bn5
Helpful listening as #TipsForNewDocs How we talk about CPR matters. Everyone's heart stops at death - that's NOT cardiac arrest. It's dying. In CA, the heart stops first. If you discuss CPR without mentioning #OrdinaryDying, you'll create confusion. Listen ⬇️ Thanks @TheRACP

Agehood Podcast looks at the challenges of supporting our older relatives, often while still supporting our youngsters. In this episode, I chat to @Violet_org_au's CEO Melissa Reader about those essential #TenderConversations for planning ahead. bit.ly/4m8YYiM
This is such an excellent discussion, thank you for presenting such valuable info. So many notes & quotes from the episode!
Today, I have finally concluded my memoir about caring for my mum with dementia at home with dementia during the pandemic. I have called my memoir, "A hierarchy of invisibility". If you heard @drjanetownson's testimony in the COVID enquiry, you'll understand why.

Damning analysis and a call to redemptive action: @IraByock calls USA palliative & hospice care commissioning & providers to account, offering a workable strategic vision. This applies far beyond the USA. Make beverages: this is a big, thought-provoking & necessary read.

Delighted to work with specialists in cardiology, intensive care medicine & palliative medicine in NZ & Australia to contemplate the way our discussion of CPR prejudices public understanding of its (limited) role in medicine. Podcast for @TheRACP racp.edu.au/pomegranate/vi…
