The lab is now up and running at New England Biolabs @NEBiolabs! I'm looking for a postdoc to study phage defence systems. If you'd like the academic freedom to publish but the resources of industry, then take a look 🤓😃 neb.wd5.myworkdayjobs.com/en-US/NEB_Care…
Well done to @Het_Gajjar37 for presenting his contribution to our phage bacteriocin story at @VoM_UK

So this is happening in a couple of weeks so if you are interested in biomedical research and you want to have a conversation about the research we do @NTUBIOSCIENCES or even get involved, come along on the 23rd Jan!
Update on abstract submission for VoM-UK 2025. We have extended the deadline for registration and submission of abstracts until the 10th of Jan 2025 as people are still actively applying @VirusOfMicrobes Registration link: tinyurl.com/49cs2pzm
📢 Historic day for Portugal and phage therapy! 🇵🇹 A framework was approved, allowing magistral preparation of personalized phage products. 🙌 Grateful to Jean-Paul Pirnay, my group @AzeredoLab Portuguese patients, and doctors who signed a petition inspired by the Belgium model.
Congratulations to Stephen Thompson (PhD), @hormoyhemmy (PhD), Lesley Hoyles and @WinterJody on their preprint combining transcriptomic (RNAseq) and phenotypic work to show the effects of menadione on Helicobacter pylori.
Menadione reduces the expression of virulence- and colonisation-associated genes in Helicobacter pylori biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh… #biorxiv_micrbio
Check our latest preprint! We've doubled the number of known weberviruses (phages of Klebsiella) and taken a bit of a deep dive into their genomes to better characterise the genus.
New preprint out from @SamJTDMicro (PhD), @SaraGarnettx (MRes), @fiona_newberry (post-doc), @dp_negus and Lesley Hoyles. COVID lockdown meant Sam needed to change the focus of his PhD for a while. This is the result. Isolated phages and MAGs --> 2x number of known weberviruses.
Check out @npjAMR new review on how Gram-negative bacteria escape Bdellovibrio predation!🦠☠️ @dp_negus @SouravKumarAMR (1/5) nature.com/articles/s4425…
Well its that time of year again Pholks. We are happy to announce the dates for the next Viruses of Microbes-UK meeting at Northumbria University. The meeting will be on the 23rd and 24th of Jan 2025. This will be preceded by a phage genomics workshop led by @milja001 on the 22nd
Very pleased to announce that our review (@SouravKumarAMR ) on how Gram-negative bacteria escape predation by Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is now published in @npjAMR check it out if you're interested in predatory bacteria! nature.com/articles/s4425…
Delighted to receive this and very excited about the upcoming citizen science project - watch this space! Thank you very much @MicrobioSoc
