For whoever might care … Thr*ads: Same handle as here. Bl*esky: Just my full name. See you over there. It’ll be links, college talk and the occasional Nationals thoughts (can’t help it). Not leaving, at least not at the moment, but certainly shifting focus.
I am off this week, but popping in from a staycation to say that this is going to be awesome. @ajflax is the perfect combo of fan/nerd/draft obsessive/analyst to make a good newsletter. If you're into Nationals nostalgia/minutia, etc., this will very much be for you.
Big news: I'm starting a Nationals newsletter! I'll be writing a few times a month about the biggest Nats topics (and prospects takes too). It's free, so I hope you'll subscribe. My first post (below) is on the Nats' draft, and what's changed (or not) in the post-Rizzo era.
Uh I phrased this really poorly, I'm not getting fired or anything, I'm taking a WaPo buyout. More news soon! Sorry for subpar phrasing! I'm not a writer!
WaPo should honor Dan’s incredible run by reprinting this as a commemorative issue:
Well. Tomorrow is my last day at The Washington Post. It’s been a total thrill.
Dan is the reason I applied for a job at The Post, and it’s truly been a dream working with and alongside him all these years. He will be missed more than he will ever know (or care to admit). Love you, man. Atlantic 11 forever.

NEW: I spoke with @RepBynum and @RepSCFigures, the only two House Democrats (so far) who have co-sponsored the GOP-led SCORE Act. The freshmen members have personal and/or staff ties to college sports–and HBCU's in particular. For @Sportico 👇 sportico.com/leagues/colleg…
House Energy and Commerce Committee will hold a full committee hearing to markup the SCORE Act on Wednesday. If the committee votes to approve - along with the Ed & Workforce Committee - the Act is eligible to be introduced on the House floor for debate and a potential vote.
Members of the U.S. House are planning, as soon as Thursday, to introduce an amended college sports bill (SCORE Act), sources tell @YahooSports. Though opposed by many Democrats, the Act is on track to progress further than any all-encompassing athlete compensation legislation.

I'm no Article 2 expert but I'm pretty sure the executive branch can't unilaterally create antitrust exemptions. Like maybe this leads to more DOJ statements of interest like we saw in Zeigler but I don't know what else the cabinet can do.
A draft of a presidential executive order intends to “preserve” college sports from “threat” and destruction, per a @YahooSports copy. Donald Trump, in the draft, directs his Cabinet to create policy for antitrust protection, state preemption & employment bit.ly/3IBA7W9

A dump of thoughts, pretty stream-of-consciousness, on the latest college sports hearing on Capitol Hill. Plus a meat-and-potatoes breakdown of what happened, what happens next, etc. collegesportsmoney.substack.com/p/score-act-ad…
@dougherty_jesse just published a wonderful behind-the-scenes look at what went on in the subcommittee room to his newsletter -- highly encourage anyone interested to check it out: collegesportsmoney.substack.com/p/score-act-ad…
Another key note on this: The E+C markup could include the Education + Workforce markup simultaneously. The Judiciary committee doesn't appear to have a markup on the bill looming (even with multiple references to the committee’s work on the antitrust exemption in the bill).
After a good bit of back and forth on proposed amendments, the SCORE Act has passed through the House subcommittee for commerce, manufacturing + trade. The vote — 12-11 — advances the bill to the E+C committee. Important: Still has a long way to go, but this is one step.
Last month, I spent a Saturday with the internet’s favorite basketball team: Rod Wave Elite. Founded by content creator @camwilderr, RWE is a sensation. Built by and for social media, the team has the type of young, rabid following every brand craves. washingtonpost.com/sports/2025/07…
