Prout was vicar at Binsey from 1859 - 1891 and was also a Fellow of Christ Church College #Oxford. Renowned for falling asleep in meetings, he is thought by many to have inspired the sleepy dormouse in Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland (where the treacle well also appears)
