How does a bloke like you end up a dosser, then?
Looks like it's curtains for Starmer then. Not for nothing is Wes Streeting referred to in sensible political circles as a 'quadruple threat'. ✅ film-star looks ✅ brought up on a council estate ✅ with the bottle to say it as it is ✅ hides from nobody and nothing
I'm told a potential Labour leadership bid from Wes Streeting is currently shaping up, with Shabana Mahmood broached as campaign chair

"tipping culture" is an exploitation strategy. it externalizes labor costs and makes worker pay contingent on sales volume rather than hours worked. debates about whether baristas 'deserve' to be tipped are never not completely misdirected resentment. fell for it again award
A superb thread. A forensic analysis from an ex-insider of how water (and imho other essential services) have been turned into machines for extracting huge wealth from the public. £84 billion in dividends so far. Paid for by ladening the companies with £74 billion of debt.
I spent a year at Ofwat back in 2013 working on price controls I’m not remotely surprised it’s being abolished - what I saw astonished me 🧵 theguardian.com/business/2025/…
This has to be understood as class war. Not only in terms of different life expectancies but in terms of the intellectual/manual labour split, control over work and which jobs can be done easily by people in their late 60s (or people have the power to adapt) and which can't.

Genuinely impressive that our political and media class engineered a climate of patriotic, nationalist hysteria that is perfectly comfortable with complete subservience to America, as well as the utter disdain for the British public required to maintain it.
David Lammy says it would be wholly inappropriate for the British public to know if US nuclear weapons are now stationed on UK soil.
cracked, but sheds some light on the concept of 'civility' as promoted in our discourse
Absolutely fucking bonkers that Lammy refutes the argument that he might find himself in the Hague by accusing his interlocutor of lacking gentility, fucking cracked
Hard to think of one image which captures the cowardice, authoritarianism and banality of the Starmer regime, but I think this is a contender
For at least a year now Israel has completely abandoned even the pretence of fighting Hamas. Bombing randomly or displaced people and now almost exclusively people waiting in food lines or children and women
Yeah sorry but 49% of MPs told me anxiety and depression aren't real.
Our one weird trick is to set out proposals for making life better for everyone, apart from a handful of ultra-rich maniacs. Wrestling with said maniacs' paid help is a waste of precious time and energy. (Even if the media system owned by ultra-rich maniacs incentivises it.)
I think it's daft to engage in far-right manufactured culture war spectacles on their terms, playing the role they're assigning you. Talk relentlessly about the issues you actually care about imo

“The British do have the view that they can have Scandinavian levels of welfare from the cradle to the grave.” Labour has promoted certain expectations for generous welfare but that clashes with the realities of government funding, says #TimesRadio presenter @AFNeil.
I was thinking what this reminded me of, and it's the first of the EHRC's hostile findings against Labour (an organisation's responsibility for statements by its officials) in so far as it's a standard I've never seen applied before and don't expect to see applied in the future.
BBC Gaza documentary breached editorial guidelines on accuracy by failing to disclose child narrator was son of Hamas official, review finds bbc.in/4lTx0Y9
Hypernormalization- literally no one inc Reeves knows this is true, most observers know this was one of the key reasons for the GFC yet it’s accepted with little opposition because there is no concrete alternative and the political imagination of an alternative has been crushed.
New blogpost: Everything Must Change For Everything to Remain the Same - Many political commentators have assumed that the Labour goverment is unpopular due to misjudgements and naivety, but what if implementing unpopular policies was always the point? fromarsetoelbow.blogspot.com/2025/07/everyt…
