The Bible teaches that baptism is to be applied to those who profess faith and to their children. This was explicit to the original audience of the NT but is implicit to us today who come from a very different cultural setting with a different social imagination and different…
SBC guys rn trying to be catholic and do retrieval:
No, you cannot have what Barrett wants by retrieving the Baptist Tradition. You cannot have connectional polity (ordination and accountability) as an association. You cannot have creeds and confessions without connectional polity b/c they were and are forged by communions with…
It seems a bit off to allow latitude in the very elements of the sacrament (which is dictated in the Scriptures), while demanding uniformity in who gets to hand out the elements (which is not).
Dr. @MattMBarrett offers several reasons for leaving the SBC: 1) Creeds, 2) Connectionalism, & 3) Baptism (of infants). Like many of us who have made the journey out of the revised, individualistic form of Christianity that is the Baptist tradition, Barrett notes, "the Baptist…
I am committed to continuing to grow as a Christian as I seek to be increasingly rooted in Scripture and the Great Tradition, which I expect will keep me Presbyterian, Reformed, and catholic . That is very different from, for example, being committed to staying Baptist, as one…
Paul's instruction to Timothy to use a little wine for the sake of his stomach (1 Tim 5:23) suggests that pastoral ministry has always been stressful and that a pastor must take reasonable care of his physical health to render effective service to the Church.
One of the most overlooked and unapplied verses in the NT by churches: "As for those [elders] who persist in sin, rebuke them in the presence of all so that the rest may stand in fear." - 1 Tim 5:20
GO NORTH, BRAVE MEN! A church recently entered my PCA Presbytery (Northern New England) and is seeking a pastor. Located in one of the most beautiful parts of the country, it is an excellent setting for preaching the gospel and building up the saints. newhopebgr.org
Uri Berliner, a veteran at the public radio institution, says the network lost its way when it started telling listeners how to think.
PCAers: Let’s clarify some matters being debated so we don’t conflate different issues. 1) It is perfectly acceptable for men to be nominated from the floor for permanent committees, SJC, and agency boards. This does NOT violate our grass-roots culture. 2) It is clear the Nom…
Christian unity in Christ by the Spirit is a reality untouched by the division in the visible church, yet our spiritual union demands that we manifest and maintain this unity in church membership, in connectionalism, and, most of all, in love toward one another.
A few reflections on the forefathers of the PCA and what helped to make us such a biblically faithful, culturally impactful and growing denomination that I hope everyone will keep in mind as a new group and generation moves into the ascendency. #PCA #PCAGA
In the US, the Church is assaulted by revisionist and individualized "Christianities." Progressives reject the historic message and doctrine of the faith. Evangelicals (Pentecostals/Baptists/Non-Denominationalists) reject the historic, institutional shape of the faith.
Christianity is a religion (just not a man-made one) that is lived within the context of an institution (the Church). Christianity is not merely an individual/personal relationship with God.
"The enduring importance of baptism rests in what it always says about God and his gospel, and not what it sometimes says about the person who is baptized.” - Chad Van Dixhoorn
Baptism is not made invalid by an impious or unbelieving pastor. Similarly, the Lord's Table is not rendered invalid by the errant theology of the priest administering it. The sacraments are God's gifts, effective by the Spirit & the words of institution to be received by faith.
The Holy Spirit does extraordinary things through ordinary churches, ordinary people, and ordinary means. - paraphrase of @SeanMLucas in Presbyterianism
