.@adam_tooze on the singular character of the Israeli-imposed famine in Gaza:
People talk about the genius of Zohran’s vertical videos but I think we might not be giving Adam’s enough credit
I hear my opponents have travel plans…
This would be a great policy and source of revenue for the funds-starved CUNY system
When a university becomes the #1 private property holder in NYC, can education truly be considered its primary mission? Ask your state representatives to support the bills to tax Columbia & NYU and fund CUNY: repairny.org/organize
I met with Mahmoud Khalil, a Palestinian student at Columbia University, who was imprisoned for 104 days by the Trump administration for opposing Netanyahu’s illegal & horrific war in Gaza. Outrageous. We must not allow Trump to destroy the First Amendment & freedom to dissent.
It would also be funny to see her enter the race as a write in and get trounced by a 33-year-old socialist
Hillary Clinton becoming mayor of New York would be funny
A slow daily diesel train between Minneapolis and Chicago sees 100,000 more riders than it was projected to see when it opened a year ago, and you all want to tell me there’s no demand for fast and frequent trains in this country lol.
Amtrak’s Borealis reaches 250,000-rider mark bit.ly/4lOm51U
lol the sign of a real New Yorker is the guy who carries an Anthora cup around town greeting people who don’t want to talk to him

There are far greater things to ponder but the responses by Summers, Ackman, Dimon, and others to Zohran’s primary win really just reminds you how illiterate you can be in the history of economic and political theory and still make lots of money
I’m sure he thinks this distinction means something but it’s not what he thinks it means

Not entirely convinced this has been the Democrats problems…though I guess it is true that when a candidate recently won a Democratic primary with a massive mandate a set of ideologues have let their own preconceptions get in the way of a politics of winning at all costs
Welly, welly, welly, well. LFG!! @ZohranKMamdani
BRD is proud to endorse Zohran Mamdani @ZohranKMamdani in the 2025 General Election for Mayor. We’re fired up for a mayor with the will and know-how to build a more affordable city for all, and we can’t wait to help push his groundbreaking campaign across the finish line!
Yep. Democratic leaders have a choice: they can build the party by embracing left populists like Mamdani who are confronting these problems, or keep fighting them and watch as young people flock to right populists who are confronting these problems.
The thing so frightening to capital about the Zohran win is that it signals that there are still some rare things on this precious earth that it can’t buy and manipulate
Peak moment is Kathy says the financial industry is ‘disadvantaged’ and ‘can’t participate in supporting candidates of their choice’ because their political contributions are capped at a few hundred dollars and Joe says “Well they could knock on doors like the Zohran volunteers.”
On the new episode of On the Nose, @PeterBeinart talks to @bradlander about his principled cross-endorsement of Zohran Mamdani, and the line between “fighters and folders” in the Democratic Party.
When you tweet about the political tradition that helped popularize the labor theory of value but don’t realize it
A fundamental weakness of socialism is that socialists don’t understand what value is. They think value is just “there” and all they have to do is seize it from the rich and give it to the poor. Value is created by talented people with ideas who need to be incentivised to create.
Throughout the entire history of left-wing and working-class organizing in the United States, the participation in and building of institutions of political education has been key. jacobin.com/2025/02/social…
The AHA is a lot like the Democratic Party in that it’s controlled by a tired establishment more interested in holding onto power than using the institution as a vehicle to improve things.
Thank you Joan W. Scott for being among the few elders of the historical profession willing to speak with common sense and clarity on the stakes of the @AHAhistorians elections
Remind me how many socialist columnists the Times has again?
